PhD Programme

PhD. Candidates conduct original research towards a PhD. dissertation in any one of the three streams of study offered at the School under the supervision of a guide from within the School’s faculty.

The PhD. Programme is designed to support a student through the process of doing original research that contributes to the chosen discipline. 

Successful MPhil. students of the School may graduate to a PhD. programme. However, the School also invites applications for direct admissions to the PhD. programmes at the School.

Only those candidates will be considered for direct admission who have either:

Obtained an MPhil. Degree from a recognized University/Research Institution with a minimum Grade Point Average of 6.00 on a 10 point scale (candidates who have obtained an MPhil. Degree from a University/Institution where the MPhil. dissertation is not graded or grading is not based on a 10 point scale are required to forward a copy of their MPhil. dissertation along with the application form for the purpose of assessment of their credentials).

Possess demonstrable research experience in recognized Universities/ Research Institutions and/or research publication(s) equivalent to the MPhil. level.

The MPhil. Programmes Admission to the MPhil. is through a separate entrance examination for each stream (i) Visual Studies, (ii) Cinema Studies, and (iii) Theatre and Performance Studies followed by a viva voce.

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

CUET 2024 round 4 merit list of Central University of Karnataka is out. Candidates must complete the admission by Sep 8, 2024.

GATE 2025 exam date has been scheduled for Feb 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.

Jagannath University, Jaipur was established by an Act of the Rajasthan State Legislature on April 16, 2008, approved under section 2(f) by the UGC Act, 1956, and JNU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University has also acquired a distinctive status in agriculture education having been accredited by ICAR for its B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture program. CUET UG 2024 exam will be held from  May 15, 2024,  to  May 31, 2024 . CUET 2024 application form will be released in the first week of  February 2024  (tentatively). CUET PG 2024 exam will be conducted between  March 11, 2024  and  March 28, 2024 . CUET PG 2024 online registration is expected to start in the first week of  January 2024 .

Jagannath University offers UG and PG  programs in the areas of Engineering & Technology, Architecture, Management, Law, Agriculture Science, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Paramedical Sciences, Education and Vocational Studies and the Ph.D. programs are offered in select disciplines. Admissions to courses like BBA, B.Pharm, B.A MA, D.Pharma, Phd etc. are made based on entrance exam, and merit, depending upon the nature of the program. Admission is currently open for courses. The mode of the examination is online and is a Computer Based Test. D.Pharmacy Eligibility

• Students must have obtained the Masters Degree with at least 55% marks (CGPA 5.5 - 6 on a scale of 10) of any recognized University (50% for SC / ST /Physically and visually handicapped candidates).

Fees & Scholarships : The fee structure was 80000 annually but I got scholarship from my clg and I got some discount in the fees .my clg also provide the many programs for the students who can't afford the fees . it's a good university.

Academics & Faculty : When I take admission in bpt in jagannath University I was worried about the syllabus and study but the faculties of our department helped me in everything....such a nice and amazing faculties in our department.The registrar sir mr.tanmay patnayak is very amazing and kindest personality.he helped us in everything.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : I have not taken any hostel facility I was living with my family. But the hostel facility of clg was almost good

Clubs & Associations : In the all years of my clg life I make many memories like making good friends,got very amazing teachers and the family like environment.the extra curricular activities was taken place every year .I have participated in many times .all the experience was good.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Eligibility is inter and diploma. The entrance exam is Rajasthan CET. There are no cutoffs.

Academics & Faculty : It provides best faculty and architecture facilities.

Fees & Scholarships : It provides good scholarship to the students and those can't afford they will get financial aid.

JNU considers return to own PhD entrance exam amid UGC-NET delays

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) has claimed that JNU is considering bringing back its own entrance examinations for PhD admissions, potentially moving away from relying on UGC-NET scores. This consideration follows the cancellation of the June 2024 UGC-NET Examination.

However, JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit clarified that no final decision had been made. The administration is currently inviting suggestions from stakeholders. Pandit emphasised that it is premature to conclude that JNU will eliminate the use of UGC-NET scores for PhD admissions.

The primary concern is the delay in PhD admissions due to the National Testing Agency (NTA) not yet declaring UGC-NET results, which also affects the fellowship of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) students.

"There are logistical challenges to reinstating the old entrance system, and it will take time to implement. No decision has been made yet, and any future decisions will be notified on the university website," said JNU Vice-Chancellor as reported by PTI.

According to a statement from JNUTA, a meeting on July 3 involving the vice-chancellor and Deans of Schools discussed the possibility of reinstating the old JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) for PhD admissions. JNUTA sees this as a positive response to their long-standing demand following the cancellation of the June UGC-NET examination.

JNUTA also criticised the decision to use UGC-NET scores for PhD admissions in 2024-25, claiming it was imposed without proper deliberation amongst faculty or within the university's authoritative bodies.

The Ministry of Education had cancelled the UGC-NET exam on June 18 due to concerns over the exam's integrity. The rescheduled UGC-NET exam is set for August 21 to September 4, which will further delay the results.

Additionally, JNUTA has urged the university to consider using JNUEE for postgraduate and undergraduate admissions, citing reported irregularities in several NTA-conducted competitive examinations.

The UGC-NET exam is essential for determining eligibility for junior research fellowships, assistant professor positions, and PhD programme admissions in Indian universities and colleges.

When I took admission in jaipur national university many courses are available and I b.sc MLT have semester system at that time...and university took exams.now our juniors have yearly system and Rpmc tooks exams very late

• Infrastructure of the college is really good and they provide us the sufficient facilities as per the requirement and I really having too good campus as this really attracts you with infrastructure and equipment's being available in labs , library .
• Yes it includes updated curriculum and all the recent development in the different fields. They makes you ready for the jobs.
• Classroom has no air conditioner that is the problem student have faced during summer
• I don't like uniform culture in college like schools

My course is PharmD and it is a doctorate course and I am interested in hospital service and I want to work as a doctor so that's why I chose this. There are various methods in our college like they have their own hospital so we practice a lot in wards which helps us to provide our practical knowledge to patients.

All over good college

• There are many friendly people in the college. If you need any help, they will help you.
• This college is very good and is also within budget and it has its own hospital and is a good college. It is big, its infrastructure etc. is very big.
• If you are new then it will be very difficult for you to find every block in it, no one helps.

The difficulty level of the exam is whatever it should be, otherwise the exam is done properly and its timing is fixed. There is no cheating in the paper. We should take courses with discretion in which we should not take courses on the advice of others as per our interest.

• The engagement of teachers with students is next level in field practices as well as lectures.

• They charge money for sports complex to every student but they even can't allow them to enter sports complex.
• In first year they teach those things which didn't needed .

The course curriculum is always updated every year and year to give the the proper education that they want . The more lab practices give students to foster new knowledge. The exams were held 2 times in a semester and 4 times in a year . They are average.

• The things I liked about JNU is, it has a very big campus and good amenities. The hostels are also very good and very well maintained. The campus environment is green and eco friendly and very well maintained. Staff is also very polite & good.
• The things which I disliked was like, there is no good facility for outside living facilities, as the campus is lil bit in outskirts of city. There are less shops in nearby of the campus. The flats and other accomodation facility are costlier nearby.

The curriculum inside the campus is very well designed for the course. And the modules regarding the course is also very well prepared, including notes and other study materials. The exams are also scheduled in a very well designed manner. The course outcomes is very good.

Within this campus, you'll discover modern classrooms, a well-equipped library, both indoor and outdoor auditoriums, as well as convenient on-campus hostel facilities that offer amenities such as an ATM and cafeteria for added convenience

Faculty : For a Ph.D. Scholer a well-qualified and supportive guide is the most important thing Jaipur National University has one of the best guides who have many acclamations and papers published in their names. They are very well aware of the Ph.D. process and help us throughout.

Hostel : The hostel facility at JNU Jaipur is very impressive, it does provide a clean and spacious atmosphere for a student who has to study a lot like me. Food at the mess is of good quality and hygiene so no complaints there.

Placement : The objective of the Ph.D. program in Management at Jaipur National University is to prepare students for careers in teaching and research and also for positions outside academics, which require advanced research and analytical capabilities. JNU's placement unit organizes company visits, expert lectures, seminars, workshops, and mock interviews, to properly train students for employment. I did my Ph.D. in Management from JNU Jaipur and I could secure my desired positions in the professional field.

Infrastructure : JNU Jaipur offers an environment of home away from home' that generates peace of mind and creates a suitable learning environment. The campus includes various facilities including labs, libraries, specious hostels and classrooms, a gym, food, court sports, and medical checkup. I had a splendid experience during my 3 years Ph.D. program in Management.

Faculty : All the teacher's lecturers and professors at Jaipur National University hold higher degrees from renowned universities. With their depth of knowledge and wisdom, they offer students specific help in their academic and professional growth. Their direction and assistance were just a bliss during my Ph.D. program.

Hostel : During my Ph.D. in Management at Jaipur National Univesity, I felt a sense of home despite being away. JNU Jaipur offers comfortable and well-furnished accommodations with spacious rooms equipped with essential amenities like beg, study, table chairs, and wardrobes, The dormitories prioritize students' safety with round-the-clock security and continue monitoring of access points.

Overall : Jaipur National University is probably the best institute to study management courses. The overall learning environment is excellent, and the teaching methods used are very good.

Placement : The placement opportunities brought in by the placement cell are very good and have considerably high packages. Plus, various industrial leaders are invited to talk with students about placements.

Infrastructure : The college campus is well-maintained providing students with a peaceful environment to learn. The campus facilities are all updated to ensure that students do not face any issue during their academic stay.

Faculty : Every single teacher in the management department is extremely helpful and ready to assist students in their academic problems. I am still in touch with the teachers.

Hostel : The hostel rooms are well furnished and are regularly cleaned. But the food given in the canteen is not so good even though it can be eaten if you don’t have any other option.

Overall : The Jaipur National University placements in 2020 were very good even though it was a year of the coronavirus. Students got placed in big firms. Another good thing I remember about the university is that the hostel rooms had AC with power backup.

Placement : The JNU Jaipur placement cell has a great relationship with corporate bodies around the world. They pinpoint the companies that hire many graduates every year and never fail to invite them to campus placements.

Infrastructure : The JNU Jaipur infrastructure was very big and modern. They were maintained by a team of staff. JNU Jaipur campus was also well maintained, and the garden on the campus was very peaceful, where I used to go to read books.

Faculty : To be honest, I was a very introverted type of person and preferred not to interact so much with the faculty members, so I would not know how they were on a personal level. I used to attend lectures and leave.

Hostel : The summer in Jaipur is very dangerous as it can go up to 50 degrees Celsius, and if you do not have air conditioning in your rooms, you will feel like you are sitting in an oven. Thanks to JNU Jaipur hostel facilities, there were many rooms with AC, and one of them was mine.

Overall : The best thing about the Jaipur National University is the placement opportunities we got during our time there. I and my batchmates will always be grateful for the first jobs we got from the university campus placement.

Placement : There is nothing to comment on the Jaipur National University placements. The Jaipur National University placement cell works magic every year by inviting big MNCs to our campus. They hire students from all streams offering them great packages.

Infrastructure : The best thing about the Jaipur National University infrastructure is that the buildings were constructed in a way that the natural lights were there even if we turned off the lights. The classrooms were big and the lighting throughout the campus was just right.

Faculty : The Jaipur National University faculty members were very responsible for us. They always showed us the right way to go about our life and future. They are still in touch with me on Facebook and I still talk to my teachers.

Hostel : The Jaipur National University hostel has great security. Once my laptop got stolen from my room but thanks to the security camera in our lobby the thief got caught and it was the laundry man.
