ORDER CONFIRMATION You will receive two emails once your regalia registration is complete. The first email will be from Balfour. This contains your payment information. The second email is from Build-A-Grad. This email order confirmation contains all the necessary details regarding your regalia order. Your Order Number will be on this order confirmation. Please print your order confirmation or bring it on your mobile device to your school or graduation regalia pickup location as proof of order/payment when picking up your regalia.

Includes the following:, deluxe doctoral gown.

This gown is made with generous fluting across the back and shoulders. Made from our superior Pilgrim fabric with luxurious, fully lined bell sleeves. Available in a choice of Black velvet on black gown or Philosophy Blue velvet on black gown. Gold piping is optional. To order, we need your height and weight to ensure the correct gown length. This information also determines the fullness of the gown.

Boston College students had adopted maroon and old gold as their school colors by the 1880s at the latest, but detailed historical information about that process is not available at this time.

Citations in the World Almanac (listed by cover date; color information is from the previous year): maroon/old gold (1923-1935)

At some point (possibly in the 1990s?) the administration of Boston College approved the use of an optional doctoral gown tailored from maroon fabric. The velvet trim of this gown is black, edged with gold piping. Two embroidered patches of the college shield are sewn to the upper facings of the gown. This gown may be used in place of the traditional black gown.

To the right is a photograph of this gown from the University Cap & Gown Company (Balfour) . For reasons unknown, the company describes the color of the gown’s fabric as being “burgundy”, not the college’s official color of maroon.

Boston College first appears in a 1927 list from the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) as having been assigned a maroon hood lining with an old gold chevron, a description that does not change in subsequent IBAC lists.

Here you will find all the necessary information for participation in Boston College Commencement activities, scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024 .

If you have any questions, please contact the Dean’s Office, Clough School of Theology and Ministry, Simboli Hall 230, 617-552-6509 . You should also check the Office of the University Secretary’s website at  /commencement  for the most up-to-date information regarding Commencement.

The information contained in this section applies to CSTM students receiving the following degrees: S.T.D., S.T.L., Th.M., M.A., M.Div., and M.T.S.  Ph.D. Candidates should contact the dean's office of the Morissey College of Arts and Sciences.

University Commencement Exercises (main ceremony)

Alumni Stadium 

This ceremony is held outdoors, rain or shine. Guests should be seated by 9:05 a.m.

Arrival and Assembly All graduates should be in the assembly areas by 7:45 a.m.

Graduate Students

• All graduate schools (except WGCAS and CGSOM):  Alumni Stadium, Merkert Chemistry Center end, to the right of Gate A

9:05 a.m.  Academic Procession

10:00 a.m.  University Commencement Exercises begin 

Clough School of Theology and Ministry Diploma Distribution Ceremony St. Ignatius 

12:00 p.m. Check-in at the St. Ignatius Church Lannon Chapel (lower level)

12:30 p.m.  Assembly for graduates and faculty

1:00 p.m.  Ceremony begins

2:00 p.m. STM Reception Saint Ignatius Church Lawn Light refreshments will be served.

• The ceremony starts at 1:00pm
• The diploma ceremony lasts approximately one hour.
• The ceremony will be streamed live on the Commencement homepage. 
• Individual CSTM diplomas will be distributed after the ceremony. 
• A professional photographer will take individual shots of each graduate that will be available for purchase. 
• Your guests may sit in any unreserved seats. 
• There is no limit to the number of guests, and no tickets are necessary for either the main ceremony or the CSTM Diploma Ceremony.
