This project is structured a lot like the project in CSE 160 with some specific requirements changed. You may NOT submit the same project that you used in CSE 160 for this class. You may use the same dataset, but we would expect that you have a much more novel and interesting set of research questions if you use the same dataset as you did in a previous quarter.

We will use Gradescope to submit the various parts of the project since it does a really good job with group projects. We will make Gradescope accounts for everyone and you will receive an email when your account is created. For each part, only one group member should submit on Gradescope . 90,000 fall in Heathrow passenger numbers blamed on 'devastating' new £10 travel permit

Airport bosses have called on Labour to reform the scheme, which was introduced by the previous Conservative government last year.

Heathrow Airport has claimed it has suffered a 90,000 decline in passenger numbers on routes affected by a new £10-per-person government scheme.

Bosses described the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system, which was introduced by the Conservative government in November 2023, as "devastating for our hub competitiveness".

The digital permits are required for nationals of seven Middle Eastern countries who do not have a visa or legal residence but wish to enter or transit through the UK.

The £10 fee applies to every affected traveller, including children and babies.

The programme is scheduled to be extended to travellers from most of the rest of the world this autumn.

But Heathrow has now urged the new Labour administration to reform the scheme for the good of the "whole UK economy".

It said in a statement: "The latest data following the introduction of the ETA shows that Heathrow has lost 90,000 transfer passengers on routes operating to and from the seven countries included in the scheme, since its introduction in 2023.

"This is devastating for our hub competitiveness. We urge government to review the inclusion of airside transit passengers.

"Every little bit of extra competitiveness that government can deliver for aviation will help deliver vital growth for the whole of the UK economy ."

ETAs currently apply to affected non-visa nationals of Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

They will be introduced for travellers from most other countries this autumn and for European nationals from early next year.

It came as Heathrow reported it had been used by a total of nearly eight million passengers in July, making it Europe's busiest airport in the first half of the year.

Bosses also said the west London airport had "performed well with no material impacts on flights" from issues such as the global IT outage or Just Stop Oil protests .

The airport announced last month that despite a fall in half-year revenues of 2.9%, it achieved an underlying profit of £178m, up from a £139m loss a year earlier.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "We are introducing ETAs to enhance border security and modernise the experience for travellers.

"The government is continuing to keep the requirement for transit passengers to obtain an ETA under review."

PH Navy: 163 Chinese ships spotted in WPS amid increased hostilities

A total of 163 Chinese ships were monitored by the Philippine Navy (PN) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) in the past week, a period marked by a series of hostile engagements at sea between the two countries.

The deployment was recorded from Aug. 20 to 26, which was bigger than the 129 vessels logged from Aug. 13 to 19.

What was even noticeable was the increase of Chinese vessels in Escoda (Sabina) Shoal where BRP Teresa Magbanua has been deployed since April while being resupplied by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

“There is a marked increase in Escoda Shoal to disrupt the conduct of lawful activities by the PCG and BFAR [Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources],” Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, PN spokesperson for WPS, said on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

“This is notable in the past days wherein PCG and BFAR ships were subject to coercive and aggressive actions,” he added.

In its monitoring from Aug. 13 to 19, the PN recorded 19 Chinese vessels in Escoda Shoal: five China Coast Guard (CCG) ships, two People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA-N) warships, and 12 Chinese maritime militia vessels (CMMVs).

This grew to seven CCG ships, six PLA-N warships, and 40 CMMVs from Aug. 20 to 26.

The PN also monitored 35 Chinese vessels in Pag-asa Island, 23 in Ayungin Shoal, 18 in Bajo de Masinloc, and 17 in Iroquois Reef.

There were also eight Chinese vessels in Kota Island, three each in Lawak Island and Panata Island; and one apiece in Parola Island, Likas Island, and Patag Island.

Meanwhile, there was no sighting of any Chinese vessel in Julian Felipe Reef.

Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief, said the military will continue to patrol the WPS despite China’s aggression.

“We have to establish our effective and sustainable presence in the West Philippine Sea,” Brawner said during the 35 th International Military Law and Operations Conference at the Manila Hotel. “We have to assert our sovereignty and our sovereign rights.”

This month alone, there have been six recorded incidents of Chinese aggression in the WPS.

These include the blocking of PCG vessels in Escoda Shoal on Aug. 26, ramming and firing of water cannon against BFAR ship BRP Datu Sanday in Escoda Shoal on Aug. 25; launching of flares against a BFAR plane near Pag-asa Island on Aug, 22; collision with PCG ships in Escoda Shoal and use of flares against a BFAR plane both on Aug. 19; and firing of flares against a Philippine Air Force (PAF) aircraft in Bajo de Masinloc on Aug. 8.

“The Navy is concerned with all these coercive and aggressive actions that raise the risk for a miscalculation. The PN – and the AFP – maintains close coordination with the PCG and BFAR to ensure safety and the security of our exclusive economic zone,” Trinidad said.

Trinidad said the PN has increased its presence not only in Escoda Shoal but all over the nine features occupied by the Philippines in the WPS.

Liverpool have agreed a £12.5m deal with Juventus to sign Italy forward Federico Chiesa.

The fee for the 26-year-old is £10m up front, plus £2.5m in add-ons based primarily on his first-team performances, with Liverpool set to hand him a four-year contract at Anfield.

"I'm really happy and ready for this new adventure," he told of his impending move to Liverpool. "I want to thank the Juventus fans, thanks for all the affection over the years, I'll keep you in my heart, thanks Juventus.

Barcelona had also been said to be interested in Chiesa, but are struggling to free up the margin in their wage bill to be able to register him, while interest from Saudi Arabia was believed to have posed the biggest competition to Liverpool in securing his signature.

Chiesa joined Juventus on a permanent deal in 2022 following an initial two-year loan from Fiorentina and has made 98 appearances for the Turin-based club, scoring 32 goals in 131 appearances in all competitions, including 21 times in 98 Serie A matches.

Chiesa also played a key role in Italy's Euro 2021 triumph, including in the final where Roberto Mancini's side beat England 2-1 at Wembley.

Chiesa would become new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot's second signing this summer after the Reds recently agreed a deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for £25m plus £4m in add-ons, although the Georgia international will remain with the LaLiga club until next summer.

'Chiesa has so much talent - but needs to develop'

Italian football expert Mina Rzouki on Sky Sports News:

"He's an incredibly direct player, he can play on the left or right - he can even play as a second striker although he's not a huge fan of doing that.

"You need to just watch the Euro 2020 match against Spain, and even in the final. It's his acceleration, his dribbling, his top speed, he covers a lot of ground.

"As he's got a little bit older it's a little bit less-so, but it's partly the style Juventus play too. He's not someone who occupies space in exactly the way Italian coaches love, or what is needed in Serie A.

"He sometimes can't rid himself of his marker, and he hasn't yet fully connected with a coach who has been able to fully develop his talent.

"He's got bags of talent, so much technique - but it's about reading the game, knowing how to play with your team-mates, how to get rid of markers.

"That's not really been his forte; it can sometimes be head-down, dribbles, a one-man band. He's got a beautiful finish on him but it's about incorporating into the team dynamic more."

'Chiesa suffered from Allegri's style'

"Fans are up in arms about him leaving, because of the promise he's shown - he was meant to be the future of the team.

"It hasn't really worked out. It's very difficult to blame the player for all of this, when he arrived he took the club by storm.

"He was brilliant to watch under Andrea Pirlo, so agile, direct and mobile and was always coming to Juventus' rescue.

"But he suffered an ACL injury in January 2022, and we're yet to see him coming back to the player we're used to.

"Unfortunately, it seemed like under Max Allegri, who played a more cautious style of football, it wasn't great for the attackers at Juventus.

"When it came to Thiago Motta taking over, it seemed like this was his opportunity.

"But with one year on his deal, nothing agreed and rumours about him wanting so much money, Juventus want to be sustainable and Motta decided he's not the type of player who will fit into his plan.

"He needs a place where he can start - but I'm not sure he's going to get that at Liverpool either."

When an injury to Junior dos Santos forced the former heavyweight champion out of his planned UFC Fight Night 163 main event with Alexander Volkov, it forced the UFC to adapt. Volkov landed a new, controversial opponent, and the co-main event featuring featherweights Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar was given the bump to main event status. The event, which takes place at CSKA Arena in Moscow, may be short on fights featuring big names, but the top end of the card is not lacking in intrigue.

Magomedsharipov (17-1) currently sits as the No. 4 ranked featherweight in the CBS Sports UFC divisional rankings . While Magomedsharipov has three submission wins in his five UFC bouts, Kattar has favored his striking game with three TKO wins in his own five outings.

The main event promises good action with significant impact to the 145-pound division, but it's the heavyweight co-feature that is likely to grab the bigger headlines. Volkov (30-7) is ranked No. 7 at heavyweight after having a six-fight winning streak snapped in his most recent outing, a knockout loss in the final seconds of a bout he was otherwise winning against Derrick Lewis. Prior to the loss to Lewis, Volkov had scored a career-best knockout win over former champ Fabricio Werdum.

Volkov's opponent is someone fight fans have grown accustomed to seeing in the Octagon this year in Greg Hardy. The former NFL defensive end who has made the transition to MMA after legal trouble and allegations of domestic abuse will be making his fifth walk to the Octagon on Saturday night, the most by any fighter in 2019.

Fans have been waiting to see what would happen when Hardy took a step up in competition, which he certainly is against Volkov.

Also returning on this card are some fan favorites like Danny "Hot Chocolate" Roberts and Anthony Rocco Martin. Roberts suffered a brutal knockout loss to Michel Pereira last time out and is looking to bounce back against Zelim Imadaev. Martin lost a decision to Demian Maia and hopes to rebound against Ramazan Emeev.

Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar : Magomedsharipov has a dangerous submission game, but Kattar hasn't been submitted in more than a decade. Kattar has stopping power but Magomedsharipov has never been knocked out. So the best tools for both men may not lead to a stoppage. Then again, Kattar stopped Fishgold and Burgos and neither man had been knocked out prior.
