15 Quotes on Problem Solving from Inspirational Leaders

problem solving leadership quotes

Everywhere we turn these days there are problems. It seems like we don’t have to go further than our living rooms to realize that. At the push of a button, the overwhelming, and often times glaring images and sounds are right there and it’s just hard for anyone to ignore.

The problems are getting more complicated by the minute. The strategies that were used to solve them yesterday, seems amateur when measured against the problems themselves and what it’s really going to take to get them solved today.

In the midst of it all, I would still say there is hope. And today we can be encouraged and inspired by words of wisdom from great men who no doubt have had problems and challenges of their own and who have recorded their mark in history of how to approach the problems without losing courage.

1.) “When a problem comes along, study it until you are completely knowledgeable. Then find out that weak spot, break the problem apart, and the rest will be easy.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

2.) “How you think about a problem is more important than the problem itself – so always think positively.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

3.) “A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them and strong enough to correct them.”  ~ John C. Maxwell

4.) “A leader lives with people to know their problems. A leader lives with God in order to solve them.” ~ John C. Maxwell

5.) “In fact, it is only through the New Testament that we can learn just what Christian faith is…Open your Bible at any page you like, there is nothing about solving religious problems. Bible testifies that God exists and that He revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. It shows too that the man who lives without God is not living right.” ~ Wilhelm Busch

6.) “Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings.” ~ John F. Kennedy

7.) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:13 New King James Version [NKJV]

8.) “The way to solve the problems in your life is to open your heart to others and to think differently. This has better result and brings more peace and happiness in your life, especially ultimate happiness that you will experience forever and that you can give to everyone who is suffering and to everyone who needs your help.” ~ Lama Zopa Rinpoche

9.) “No problem is insurmountable. With a little courage, teamwork and determination a person can overcome anything.’ ~ B. Dodge

10.) “One of the true tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency.” ~ Arnold Glasgow

11.) The bottom line is that if you become a master at handling problems and overcoming obstacles, what can stop you from success? The answer is nothing! And if nothing can stop you, you become unstoppable! ~ T. Hary Eker

12.) “The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities, We need men who can dream of things that never were.” ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy

13.) “Through money or power you cannot solve all problems. The problem in the human heart must be solved first.” ~ Dalai Lama

14.) “We shall find the answer when we examine the problem, the problem is never apart from the answer. The problem IS the answer, understanding the problem dissolves the problem.” ~ Bruce Lee

15.)”Have you got a problem? Do what you can where you are with what you’ve got.” ~ Theodore Rooesvelt

Hopefully you have enjoyed these quotes enough to share this post with someone else so that they too can be inspired and encouraged through their own difficult circumstances today.

As always, I would love to hear from you.

Which quote inspired you the most? Do you think today’s problems are more man-made or simply, bible prophesy being fulfilled in our times?

“In times like these it is good to remember that there have always been times like these.”

“The majority see the obstacles; the few see the objectives; history records the successes of the latter, while oblivion is the reward of the former.”

“The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.”

“One thing is sure. We have to do something. We have to do the best we know how at the moment . . . ; If it doesn't turn out right, we can modify it as we go along.”

“Leaders are problem solvers by talent and temperament, and by choice. For them, the new information environment—undermining old means of control, opening up old closets of secrecy, reducing the relevance of ownership, early arrival, and location—should seem less a litany of problems than an agenda for action. Reaching for a way to describe the entrepreneurial energy of his fabled editor Harold Ross, James Thurber said: 'He was always leaning forward, pushing something invisible ahead of him.' That's the appropriate posture for a knowledge executive.”

“I would rather be surrounded by smart people than have a huge budget. Smart people will get you there faster.”
by

“Never try to solve all the problems at once — make them line up for you one-by-one.

“Whatever failures I have known, whatever errors I have committed, whatver follies I have witnessed in public and private life, have been the consequences of action without thought.”

“Somewhere deep down we know that in the final analysis, we do decide things and that even our decisions to let someone else decide are really our decisions, however pusillanimous.”

“Erroneous assumptions can be disastrous.”

“Some problems are so complex that you have to be highly intelligent and well-informed just to be undecided about them.”

“Again and again, the impossible decision is solved when we see that the problem is only a tough decision waiting to be made.”

“Life is a crisis - so what!”

“What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.”

“You don't drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there.”

“Problems are only opportunities in work clothes.”

“Do it, fix it, try it," is our favorite axiom. Karl Weick adds that "chaotic" action is preferable to orderly inaction." . . . ; The most important and visible outcropping of the action bias in the excellent companies is their willingness to try things out, to experiment.”

“Uncertainty can lead to paralysis. And if you become indecisive you're dead..”

“I never decide whether it's time to retire during training camp.”

“[How to think about a problem:] The first step is to make the problem specific . . . ; The second step is to form theories freely of how to rid yourself of that burden . . . ; The third step is to develop in foresight the consequences of your proposals . . . ; The fourth and final step in thinking is to compare the consequences of your proposals to see which is best in the light of your scheme of life as a whole . . . ; Whether you choose a vacation or a spouse, a party or a candidate, a cause to contribute to or a creed to live by - think!

“The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”

“It is not stress that kills us. It is effective adaptation to stress that allows us to live.”

“Difficulties are opportunities to better things; they are stepping-stones to greater experience.... When one door closes, another always opens; as a natural law it has to, to balance.”

“The most serious mistakes are not being made as a result of wrong answers. The truly dangerous thing is asking the wrong questions.”

“Unlike top management at Enron, exemplary leaders reward dissent. They encourage it. They understand that, whatever momentary discomfort they experience as a result of being told they might be wrong, it is more than offset by the fact that the information will help them make better decisions.”

“Is your cucumber bitter? Throw it away. Are there briars in your path? Turn aside. That is enough. Do not go on and ay, 'Why were things of this sort ever brought into the world?'”

“I think one difficulty is that the problem is one of such enormous complexity that the very mass of facts presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. It is virtually impossible at this distance to grasp at all the real significance of the situation.'”

“Stop looking for solutions to problems and start looking for the right path.”

“Simple is harder than complex. Simple brings accountability. Leaders deal with complex, but it’s not what they peddle.”

“Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions.”

“The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.”

“Until we have real conflict, we don’t fully understand the problem.”

These Simon Sinek quotes on leadership hold some of the most valuable advice in the world when it comes to being a great leader.

If you don’t know who Simon Sinek is, he’s an author and motivational speaker who, according to his website , believes in a world in which “the vast majority of people wake up every single morning inspired, feel safe wherever they are, and end the day fulfilled by the work they do.”

Simon Sinek has written various books about effective leaders, teamwork, and discovering a team’s or business’ purpose including Start With Why , Leaders Eat Last , and Finding Your Why .

What does Simon Sinek say about leadership?

Simon Sinek believes that great companies take care of their employees, and that is a big part of the reason why they are successful.

He also believes that great leaders have an ability to inspire their teams and that trust is incredibly important for a leader to have.

The cost of leadership, according to Simon, is one’s own self-interest. This means that it’s the leader’s job and the responsibility of leadership to put the needs of their employees above their own if they want to be successful.

Bad leaders, on the other hand, cause their employees or teams to feel immense stress and anxiety, which ultimately causes a company or team to perform poorly and lose talented individuals to other companies.

This post is all about 150 inspiring Simon Sinek quotes on Leadership.

Problem Solving Quotes

Are you ready to change your mindset, embrace challenges, and become a better problem solver? These problem solving quotes are from the world’s most influential thinkers, including Albert Einstein, Jawaharlal Nehru,  Adam Savage, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and more.

Importantly, they have shared their wisdom and insights, shedding light on how our own mindset can either be our greatest asset or our biggest downfall.

They remind us that life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced, and that every challenge we face is a chance to learn, grow, and evolve. So, let’s explore the wisdom of these great thinkers together.

  • “A problem is a chance for you to do your best.” – Duke Ellington (American pianist and composer)
  • “Nothing in life is a problem – everything is a possibility.” – Sadhguru (Founder of Isha Foundation)

Sadhguru

Final thoughts

In conclusion, we explored the problem solving quotes of great thinkers and gained a profound understanding of life’s challenges. Reflecting on these quotes will help you tackle problems you face as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Besides that, they inspire us to think without boundaries, embrace the power of deadlines in problem-solving, and experience life as a reality, not a problem to be solved. Moreover, we leave you with a few questions to ponder:

  • How will you change your mindset?
  • How will you embrace your challenges?
  • And most importantly, how will you become a better problem solver?

Above all, what possibilities will you create?

10 leadership quotes for leaders and managers in 2024.

Being more engaged as a leader or manager can significantly improve your company's culture and the ... [+] performance and career progression of your team members

Every now and then, we could do with a lift, a pick-me-up, or something inspirational to keep us on track towards achieving our career goals. Sometimes we slip into the monotony of performing our roles and lose the motivation and energy to keep going, especially if our work environment is not the most favorable. Consequently, our productivity and long-term career goals suffer.

Even as leaders and managers, we're prone to falling into a state of apathy. For example, two-thirds of managers in the U.S. are either not engaged or actively disengaged in their work and workplace, a 2020 study from Gallup showed. And this alarming state of affairs was further confirmed by Microsoft's 2022 Work Trend Index report , which noted that approximately 53% of managers report feeling burned out at work.

The result?

Disengaged teams, poor leadership, and compromised company cultures. This is why it's essential, not only for employers to foster a positive, safe, and engaging environment for their their teams and managers, but for those in management responsibility to take ownership for their own wellbeing, motivation, and career progression as well.

One fulfilling way to remain inspired and motivated in your leadership role is to make use of quotes. These one- or two-line powerhouses can help you feel great about yourself and be confident as a decision-maker, remind you to set high personal and professional goals, and help you to prioritize what's most important in your role.

When we think of leadership quotes, we probably automatically revert to famous and often overused sayings from well-known authors, politicians, or other notable figures. But how about trying expanding your quotes library?

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

Below are some not-so-famous quotes to get you pumped up for your work day, from a and for you to contemplate as you take on your leadership responsibilities. Which ones resonate with you the most?

1. Leadership Quote From Adam Grant

“Good leaders build products. Great leaders build cultures. Good leaders deliver results. Great leaders develop people. Good leaders have vision. Great leaders have values. Good leaders are role models at work. Great leaders are role models in life."

Grant's quote perfectly encapsulates the concept of what it takes to level up your game as an aspiring leader. If you already work in management, for example, and are seeking to work your way up into senior leadership, the new role will require a change of mindset and a shift in behaviors and attitudes.

2. Leadership Quote From George S. Patton Jr.

"Don't tell people how to do things; tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results."

This quote from Patton embodies the concept of coaching within your role as a leader or manager. Sometimes the situation calls for you to tell your team how things should be done, for example, when training them on compliance or giving less experienced employees an induction. Other times, it's best to tell them the end goal and trust their intuition. This helps them take ownership for their work and be more engaged.

3. Leadership Quote From Theodore Roosevelt

"The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it."

Having a high-performing team boils down to making the right hiring choices from the beginning. Don't only pick your team members because of their skills, but assess their competencies and values, to see how well they would fit within the organization's vision and culture. And of course, so long as you've made the best hiring decisions and followed your gut instinct, you should trust them enough to get the job done, focusing on output to measure productivity, not hours.

Having quotes on your desk can help you stay focused and motivated throughout the ups and downs of ... [+] your leadership journey

4. Leadership Quote From Peter Drucker

“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”

This line easily sums up the essential difference between leaders and managers—two terms that are often used interchangeably. As a manager, you are focused on operations, delivering the agreed objectives, to align with the company's vision. But when you move into leadership, the focus is on directing the vision as opposed to being hands-on in driving it forward.

5. Leadership Quote From Bill Bradley

“Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.”

As you read this quote, self-reflect: Are you unlocking the potential of those you work with? Are you intentionally seeking to uplift and develop your team? How has their career, wellbeing, and work performance improved since you started working with them?

6. Leadership Quote From Sam Rayburn

“You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too.”

One of the essential traits is that of continuous learning and a focus on one's own professional development. To be at your best in your role, focus on finding inspiration in relatable role models or mentors, following them, and learning from their example.

7. Leadership Quote From Lisa Haisha

“Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader, they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role, it’s always about the goal.”

Why do you want to work in leadership or management anyway? What's your motivation? Haisha reminds us that the focus should not be on the title, prestige, salary, or position, although those factors are important. Pursuing a career within leadership or management boils down to asking yourself, What impact do I want to make in my industry?

A leader's role is to bring others up with them

8. Leadership Quote From John C. Maxwell

“The single biggest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders and continually develops them.”

Leadership skills are in demand , with a 53% uptake in employers who admit to needing this skill from their employees. Qualities such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication, relationship-building, and emotional intelligence should be taught organization-wide, thus equipping the next generation of leaders and enabling higher performers.

9. Leadership Quote From Sam Altman

"The hard part of running a business is that there are a hundred things that you could be doing, and only five of those actually matter, and only one of them matters more than all of the rest of them combined. So figuring out there is a critical path thing to focus on and ignoring everything else is really important."

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman understood the importance of the 80/20 rule when he made this statement. With the 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle you understand as a leader that although there are a million different things you could be doing or places you could be, you spread yourself thin by attempting to do so much. Therefore, manage your time effectively by concentrating on allotting 20% of your efforts and energy into a the highest value tasks. This will help you remain focused so you can achieve 80% results.

10. Leadership Quote From Muriel Strode

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

This is how you make real impact and achieve innovation. Instead of following organizational norms, use your voice and position to challenge them. Ask questions such as, Why shouldn't we be doing this instead? What has been working well and what is not working right now? How can we improve the quality of our services and our commitment to our people?

Focus on impact, not title

To make these quotes a constant reminder at critical moments in your work day, have these quotes written down and place them on a sticky note somewhere visible, such as your workstation, desk, or other place that you tend to frequent in your home. Always aim to develop yourself to be the most exceptional leader in your organization and industry, and never be satisfied with anything less than your goal.
