Condition of the Farmer: The farmers are illiterate. They are poor. Though they work hard, they live from hand to mouth. Many farmers are landless. They plow the land of other people and get half share of it. They suffer from many diseases. Sometimes drought or flood damages their crops. So, they sell lands and take money from the village Mahajans at a high rate of interest. But we hardly realize this truth.

Importance of his Service: The farmers grow crops for the whole nation. Thus the whole nation lives on their labor.

Conclusion: We should take measures to improve the condition of the farmers. Farmers should not be neglected. They should be given agricultural loans at a low rate of interest.

Then the English left the country and subsequently the country got independence, but the fate of the peasantry of this country has changed a little. The regime changed, the ruler changed but there has been little change in the pattern of rule. We are still bearing the heritage of English rule and the colonial ruling policies.

How to Develop the Fate of the Farmers: Certain things need to be done for improving the fate of the peasants of the country. First of all, steps should be taken to literate the farmers and make them aware of the latest technology of cultivation. Secondly, farmers should be given proper assistance and subsidy where necessary. Lastly, required modifications should be brought about in the government policies and laws to protect the interest of the farmers of the country.

When there is no cultivation, then most of the farmers keep themselves busy in household work and in handicraft. They make different types of baskets, fences around their houses and fields and do other types of work.

Daily Life of a Farmer: A farmer is usually very hardworking. He gets up very early in the morning. During the cultivation season, he goes to work before the daybreak after having a little breakfast or whatever food he may find in the house. Sometimes, he even goes out on an empty stomach. He has to work very hard in his field. Usually, he carries his lunch to the field or any of his children take it for him at noon. He does not return home till nightfall. At that time he returns with a very tired body. Then he takes bath and goes to the market for buying his daily necessities. After returning from the market he is usually found to chat in the nearby tea stall with his friends or people of the locality while having tea and little snacks. It is his favorite pastime. Here he gets information about the events that took place in the locality. Sometimes, the discussions lead to different national and international matters. After that, he takes his meal ‘with his family members and goes to bed early because he will have to go to his work again the next day very early in the morning. After the harvest season, he can work in a somewhat relaxed mood and engage himself in some other activities such as making baskets, fishing, weaving fishing nets, putting fences around his house and fields, etc.

Conclusion: In spite of such hard labor, a farmer can earn very little. He is often poor and illiterate. Most of the farmers cannot feed their families well or send their children to school. Their lives are devoid of modern facilities of living. So, the government should take steps to improve the living standard of farmers.

They have immense pressure to produce crops so as to yield profit. In case their crop fails, all their effort goes in vain. In fact, then they are not able to produce enough to even fill the stomachs of their families.

Change is happening in rural India but it still has a long way to go. Farmers have benefited from improved farming techniques but the growth is not equitable. The effort should be to stop the migration of farmers to urban areas. To make agriculture successful and profitable, it is vital that proper thrust be given to the improvement of the condition of marginal and small farmers.

The Current Condition of the Farmers

The farmers feed the entire nation but they themselves struggle for 2 square meals a day. In addition, the farmers are committing suicide because of the debts and burden of guilt that they can’t feed and provide a prosperous life to their families. Many of the farmers are migrating to cities to find a more stable source of income that can provide their family with a proper food supply.

Besides, the relentlessness of the problem could be judged by the fact that every year hundreds and thousands of farmers commit suicide. The main reasons for their suicide are the repayment of loans which they are unable to repay due to various reasons. In addition, the maximum number of farmers is forced to live below the poverty line. Above all, they are forced to sell their produce at a cost lower than the MSP (Minimum Support Price).

In conclusion, we have passed a long way since independence but still, we need to do a lot. Also, the villages and farmers and villagers still after doing this much for the economy still spend there in misery. But, if we take the matter seriously and try to resolve the problems of farmers then soon a day will come to the villages will become prosperous as the cities.

More efforts should be made by the Government of India towards the Indian farmers to provide them with modern technology and resources so that they thrive and have improved crop yields and hence that will eventually to the country’s economy and its development. 

A.1 The farmers of India play a very important role in the economy of the country as agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for the majority of the Indian Population. They are hardworking, and resilient individuals who have a major impact on the development of the country. Although they play such an important role in the country, the farmers of India have to face numerous challenges which include lack of access to modern technology, lack of access to credit, and challenges related to irrigation and water management. Certain other aspects such as climate change, urbanization, etc are also affecting them. The government of India and society should take the necessary steps to address these challenges and hence support the Indian farmers to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the country.

A.2 The Indian Government has launched several schemes for the welfare of Indian farmers: PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Krishi Udan Scheme, National Mission on Natural Farming, PM Kisan, Soil Health, etc.

A.3 Farmers work tirelessly to provide the nation with food to survive. They very extremely hard but still have to face several challenges such as lack of access to modern technology, poor soil quality, insufficient government support, etc. Such challenges have led to widespread distress and poverty among the farmers. 1. introduction –.

India is a country where people are dependent on agriculture. Most of the people here do agriculture, so our country is called an agricultural country too.

Well, Indian farmers are interested in animal husbandry as well, but they consider agriculture as their main source of income. They go to the fields early in the morning with other family members and return home before noon.

Every season brings new energy to them. They grow different types of crops according to the season and earn a lot of money from it, but still, their economic condition doesn’t seem to improve because they are dependent only on agriculture, they don’t have any other source of income.

Today, we are able to arrange our daily food only because of them. If they are not there, either we may have to sleep hungry or we may have to do agriculture instead.

So, they have lots of importance in our life.

2. Situation of Indian farmers –

The situation of farmers in India isn’t good at all. They are definitely called producers of food, but sometimes they don’t get food themselves.

Even today, most farmers are illiterate, poor and powerless.

They are so illiterate that they have no idea about the future of themselves and their children. They simply send their children to government schools allegedly and most of the time make them work in the fields.

However, not all farmers are like this.

There are some places in India where farmers are very prosperous. Their lifestyle is so good that no one can believe it. They are literate too. Whenever they go to do agriculture to grow crops, they get the soil of their field tested in the laboratory so that they can know that the soil of their field is more fertile for which crop.

But, the number of poor and unhappy farmers is more in India.

3. Issues and challenges –

It’s often heard that a farmer has committed suicide, it’s only due to the failure of their crops or drought. The suicide of Indian farmers is a big problem in India.

Apart from this, they face lots of problems. Sometimes, due to sparking in the big towers standing in their fields, due to lack of rain, due to excessive rainfall, their ready crop gets destroyed which causes huge losses.

Fortunately, if the crop is harvested properly, problems arise in selling them at good prices.

To support the farmers, the government keeps on bringing new policies for them, but due to ignorance, most of them are unable to reach the policies.

Those who have less land for cultivation don’t cultivate with modern methods and adopt old methods. It’s because the modern method costs more money, which is unbearable for poor farmers.

4. Conclusion –

Farmers are those who grow crops for all the countrymen, so the government should take necessary steps to protect them and their crops.

Also, farmers should get good prices for their crops so that they remain enthusiastic about their work. If they won’t get good prices for their crops, they will migrate from the villages and there will be a dire problem of food for us in the future.

If the farmers of the village move to the cities, who will do agriculture in the villages and who will feed such a large population.

Therefore, it’s necessary that we should work keeping in mind the rights of the farmers and take care of them.

Essay on Indian Farmers in 200 Words –

The condition of Indian farmers was very bad earlier. Earlier the farmers had to cultivate under the landlords.

The landlords had a lot of land, but due to a lack of knowledge of agriculture, they used to give their land to the farmers and entered into contracts with them. The contract was about an agreement that farmers would grow all kinds of crops on rented land and in return, they would get some share of the crop.

At the same time, it was also decided that whatever profit the farmer would earn, a part of it would have to be given to the owners of the land, which was very wrong.

But, today it’s not so. Today, farmers either cultivate in their fields or on leased land. Half of the crop produced from the cultivation done on leased land is given to the owner of the land and half is taken by the farmer.

Today, most farmers are educated, so no one can exploit them.

The most formidable problem of the Indian farmers is that they get very less prices for the crops they grow, while the same crops are sold in the markets at two to three times higher prices. It’s the main reason why most farmers are financially weak.

Farmers are called the real heroes in our country because they are the ones who grow different types of crops throughout the whole year.

Our entire agricultural system depends on these farmers. They grow crops according to the season and earn profit by harvesting them on time. Sometimes the crop is very good which gives them good profit but sometimes due to the uncertainty of the weather the crop gets ruined.

The Indian farmer is not very rich so he leads a very simple life. They spend their whole life in farming. They are food providers for us, so we should respect them.

When did man know agriculture?

As for fertilizers, they have developed greatly. With the advancement of technology and the invention of modern means of transportation, plants and agricultural crops were exported to all parts of the world.

The benefit of agriculture to humans

It is important to mention the benefits of farming in our essay on farmer. Humans have discovered that agriculture is the most important job on Earth, even though other jobs are important. But all jobs can be dispensed with except agriculture. If people do not plant, they will not find anything to feed on.

If people are exposed to drought, they suffer from the problem of plant death because there is not enough water.

The dangers of low farming

Humans have moved to different jobs and left agriculture. This caused a decrease in the number of farmers and less cultivated land. The reason people change jobs is because they think other jobs are better than a farmer’s job.

When the children of the farmer travel abroad for the purposes of work or study, they do not learn from their parents how to cultivate the land. This makes the children unfamiliar with this profession.

After a period of time, the farmers will die, and this profession will not pass on to the children, but rather it will become extinct, which will lead to the extinction of humans along with it, because it is the source of food.

Farmers are the strength and backbone of the economy of any country. The food we eat and the food that keeps us healthy and strong is provided by the farmers. We are able to survive on this planet with the help of farmers and thus they are the most valuable and important people of our lives. As per the stats, farmers contribute nearly 17% to the economy of India. Farmers hold great significance in the society, however, despite being so useful, they do not have proper means of living.

In India, farmers do not enjoy the status they deserve and hence every week or month, we hear many cases of suicides by the farmers. They live a very difficult and hard life and still they don’t get the privileges they are actually worthy of. Usually, the middlemen involved in trading of vegetables and fruits get most of the money and the farmers are deprived of their basic rights.

Lately, many farmers are committing suicides because they do not have enough money to satisfy their basic needs of life and hence they resort to doing such heinous things. Many a times their crops get destroyed due to the effects of global warming and they do not get any kind of reimbursement from the government. This ultimately makes them poor and scarce in resources and makes their life miserable.

Recently, government has taken some steps to save farmers and their life. Government has released them from all types of loans and they are also paid Rs.6000 annually so that they can have some extra earning other than their profession. Also, government has taken steps to reserve seats for their children in various schools and colleges so that they should not be deprived of education. All these measures are taken to help them lead a better and healthy life. Although there’s a lot more than can be done to improve their living, however, these small steps can help them live a life they deserve.

In Senegal, meet François Diouf, a committed and supportive farmer

The sun rises over the small village of Mont-Rolland in Senegal, a two-hour drive from the capital city of Dakar. Like every morning, François Diouf, the president of an ecological and social community farm created in 2011, has been awake since dawn. While most of the residents in this large village are still sleeping, he harnesses his donkey and climbs onto his cart to head to the fields, 30 minutes away.

With about twenty young farmers from the village, they have pooled together 5 hectares of land where they all work together. On that particular day, they finish sowing green beans. After the traditional morning meeting, everyone toils in sync before the sun gets too hot to work.

Community solidarity

On this farm, everything is based on community solidarity, far from the individualism of big cities. "Here, we produce beans for export and other products, such as tomatoes, chili peppers, and okra, intended for local trade. We share all the revenue from our sales equally," enthuses François Diouf.

In the last farming season, 200 tons of vegetables were produced. "Without this solidarity, we would not achieve such yields. We are all there for each other. If one of us is sick, another replaces them on the spot, even if they had not planned to work that day," he continues. 

"Here, our motto is 'together, we are stronger'! "

Hence the name of their group: "GIE Khabaranta", which means "helping each other" in Sereer Ndut, the language spoken in Mont-Rolland.

Creating jobs in rural areas

As they all affirm, in this community farm, every farmer earns enough to meet their needs and live in decent conditions. "Much more than those who decided to leave," says one of them. In Mont-Rolland, as in many villages in the interior of Senegal, the rural exodus is a difficult scourge to curb. Some leave for the city, while others risk their lives on the perilous immigration routes to Europe. " We created this community farm in our area to avoid this," explains François Diouf.

He wants to be an example for the youth who can believe in a future in their native village. "I did not want to give in to the European myth; I decided to stay home. There is a present and a future for our youth in Mont-Rolland." Although some young people may have given in to temptation, François assures that "today, everyone is fully committed."

Social and Ecological Engagement

As a proud contributor to the creation and maintenance of jobs in rural areas, François also believes that young people serve their community much better by staying. Indeed, François and his colleagues contribute to feeding the population of Mont-Rolland with the vegetables they produce. "I wish for young people to rekindle their passion for working the land. Agriculture is a noble activity and an opportunity for our youth. Here, we carry on what our parents did with more means," he adds, "there are more and more mouths to feed in Senegal and the Sahel. We need them to consume our local products and stop importing them."

In other words, to produce more and better. For all farmers environmental responsibility comes hand in hand with social responsibility. The 5-hectare plantation is irrigated by a solar-powered system. François and his colleagues take pride in cultivating their land in the most natural way possible. "We aim for cleaner, greener, and more ethical agriculture," emphasizes François.

A model to follow ?

After a rainy season that destroyed part of the installations and plantations, François Diouf and his colleagues received support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In 2020, he received 8 million FCFA, equivalent to USD13,200, to restart his production. "This allowed us to get back to work. With this aid, we were able to purchase seeds, fertilizer, and drip irrigation," he recalls.

"If we were to adopt this farming model in all 552 municipalities in Senegal, it would be a significant stride towards curbing immigration as it would generate numerous employment opportunities," analyzed François Samb, a UNDP volunteer stationed in Mont-Rolland. "Without a doubt, this is a model worth emulating."

This model demonstrates that one can lead a fulfilling life, even better than in urban areas, while simultaneously having gainful employment. "If we support the youth in Senegal and the Sahel, they can achieve their potential and contribute to the development of their countries. The young generation yearns to succeed!"
