Some think that quality art can be made by anyone while others think that it requires special talent and ability. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Real IELTS Exam/Test

Some believe that art ought to be left to talented professionals while others believe anyone can make worthwhile pieces. In my opinion, talent is a complex concept but its lack of clarity does not make it any less crucial.

Talent, particularly in a subjective field such as art, is indefinable. It is impossible to determine the interplay between talent and genetic predisposition, upbringing, personal qualities like perseverance, motivation, luck, and practice. Research into sports has shown the importance of genetics but that is largely because of the athletic requirements. Good hand eye coordination, superior spatial sense, and linguistic prowess may give one a talent advantage in the arts but many technically skilled artists produce lifeless, unoriginal art. There are simply too many unknowns as to what informs talent and how this translates to subjective works to make a definitive appraisal of its value.

However, let us make no mistake: talent is important for all human endeavours and art is no exception. The term itself may be hazy but there is no doubt in practice that certain individuals can create stirring masterpieces and others cannot, regardless of how much hard work they put in. A good example of this would be in music. Some bands and artists toil away for years without making much of an impression while others, like the Beatles and Mozart, were successful from a very young age. John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s lyrical gifts and understanding of melody were present for them in their early 20s and few other individuals, professional or amateur, in their entire lifetime have had the talent to reach their heights.

In conclusion, though it is difficult to define, good art requires talent. There is therapeutic value for amateurs but great art with universal appeal is the prerogative of the gifted.

In the introduction you wrote that less talented doesnt mean less crucial (“ talent is a complex concept but its lack of clarity does not make it any less crucial”) , but then in conclusion you express the idea that great art is prerogative ( but great art with universal appeal is the prerogative of the gifted). Thus, there is no clear position, is it allowed to write this way?

Thanks for the question, Ana.

In the opinion I say that talent is crucial (it’s lack of clarity doesn’t make it less crucial) and then in the conclusion I repeat my claim that great art requires talent.

The opinion is the same in the intro and conclusion.

Does that make it clearer, Ana?

IELTS Writing Task 2 Samples One: Importance of Art in Society Essay

You must ask yourself some relevant questions before you start writing, for example,

  • Do you think it is necessary that art be taught to children?
  • Do you think that kids should be motivated to work on painting rather than other topics?

Art is viewed as both an important aspect of civilization and an element of its history. The idea that art is a good way to relieve stresses and stress is a known fact. It also helps to bring out their imaginative side and encourages them to better articulate themselves. For example, by observing their sketches, psychologists may comprehend the reasoning process of children. The photographs they make and the colours they use reflect what they feel about the activities in their world.

Add a Balancing Out Conclusion

Around the same time, though, fair consideration must also be paid to scholars, since not everyone can achieve their livelihood from art. One needs to be academically powerful to pursue careers like medicine or teaching. Similarly, one needs to specialise in skills that develop with experience for occupations such as plumbing and carpentry. Children should also be encouraged to concentrate on academia.

To conclude, since both are advantageous in their own respects, it is very important to find a balance between art and academia. Studies offer an incentive to explore professional careers if the arts provide a forum to openly share one’s creativity. In my view, though, it’s not a good thing to explore art at the expense of other subjects. Finally, I think that all students would be less likely to be interested in studying conventional subjects. It is imperative that a substantial proportion of students learn art subjects in order to have a balanced culture. We need as many physicians, engineers and physicists as we need writers, painters, singers, historians and media practitioners.

Here are some additional pointers that you can include in your essay on the topic ‘ Importance of Art in Society Essay’

Its ethos, artistry and talent pursuits also represent the way society works. I think it is important for kids to acquire proficiency in art subjects. Informing and expressing the cultural dimensions of any country, art plays an invaluable role. We would not have beautiful objects, statues, ornaments, and architectural monuments to speak of if no one embraced art.

It also allows us, through previous cultures, to understand our ancestors, origin and developmental patterns. Art affects our imagination deeply. Ingenuity and inventiveness were inspired by art as an area of work. The popularity of artistic disciplines is evidenced by many popular artistic discoveries in literature, poetry, songs and dance styles. Leonardo da Vinci’s well-known Mona Lisa painting,

The majestic façade and stunning architecture of Shah Jahan’s Taj Mahal and Paris’ Eiffel Tower are only a few examples. Similarly, numerous styles of music have evolved through the arts, such as classical, jazz and rock performances.

In addition, art provides students with a forum for discovering the latent potential and presenting them with better job alternatives.

By displaying their creative prowess, even individuals with less fortunate backgrounds can transform their lives. The winner of India’s Got Talent, for instance, came from a modest background last year. Not only did this competitor win big prize money, but in upcoming films, he even got chances.

IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Some people think that art is essential subject for children at school while others think it is a waste of time. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

One of the highly controversial topics today relates to whether art is a crucial subject for school children or not. In this essay, I am going to shed some light on this question from both points of view and then give my own opinion on the matter.

On one side of the argument, there are people who argue that the benefits of art as an academic subject considerably outweigh its disadvantages. The main reason for believing this is that art is the translation of the imagination of an individual on paper; thus, art aids students in broadening their thinking. It is also possible to say that art acts as a medium for the shy pupils to express their emotions directly. One good illustration of this is that children express their love and emotions for their parents by creating a  birthday card using their creativity, provided they had learned this art at the school level. Therefore, it is easy to see why this argument has gained support.

ielts writing task 2 essay on art

On the other hand, people often argue that art is just a waste of time. People often have this opinion because students are already burdened with other academic subjects; thus adding art subject will enhance that study load. Additionally, nowadays there are no job prospects for students in art; consequently, they opt for other vocational subjects. To exemplify, students choose either science or commerce stream, which have jobs available in abundance. Hence, it goes without saying that this viewpoint is credible and realistic.

In my opinion, both arguments have their merits. On balance, however, I tend to believe that art should be optional subject keeping in mind that job prospect of students are is of utmost importance.

Nowadays, whether art is important or not is considered as a Controversial subject. Few masses presume that art should be a compulsory subject in a school while others argue it . In this essay, I wil discuss both sides of the coin along with my own perspective.

On the one hand, why art is pivotal, it helps in cognitive development of a person. To justify it, art helps in presenting hidden talent of people in front of wider audience. Thus, it is a medium through which an individual can express his feelings and emotion and develop his cognition skills.

On the other hand, why art should not be a major subject is ,it does not provide job opportunities to the masses . Additionally, it increases the pressure and workload on children’s and sometimes children’s become depressed due to excessive burden.

To conclude, I personally believe that art has both pros and cons and it should be an optional subject in academic institutions.

This model essay utilise more linking words than needed . I think

It is considered by some people that art is an important subject that should be included at schools. Whereas, other folks believe that it is wasting the children’s time. This following paragraphs will highlight both views along with my perspective on this.

On the one hand, in the recent past art was considered to be basic subject at schools and even the children were marked on their performance. Art classes allows the teachers to assess the children’s ability, as well as, give the child a chance to express his/her emotions. For example, many talented musicians have been discovered during tuition time. Moreover, other are taught how to participate in a play. Consequently, they became a very famous actors and actress. On the other hand, others believe that studying science, as well as, maths are a way better than art. Many kids are not allowed to go for art classes due to their parents’ instructions. For example, parents who want their kids to be a doctor or an engineer do not believe in art as a subject, they create an angry child who struggle between his hobbies and his father’s wishes. Furthermore, they think that art will not gain money if the child took it as a career in the future.

To sum up, art is an essential subject at school. However some people think that it is useless to the students. In my opinion, art is important as it help the children to explore themselves and to identify their needs.

' data-srcset=

At my childhood, my parents would be happy to hear that our teachers replaced painting class or music class with math or English class, in their eyes, I should spend more time in “utilitarian” class. With almost twenty years passed, this phenomenon is probably going to change. Some people recognize the importance of art and urge schools to classify art class as essential subjects. For them, it is important to cultivate art tastes from an early age and the best way for that is to invest more time in art class at school. Others do not share this opinion, still thinking that the priority for schools is still utilitarian things, like math, physics and English. In my opinion, schools could attach more importance to art education, on the one hand, there are many families that cannot offer their kids after-school activities. For those kids, the only place to get access to art is schools. Therefore, schools open more opportunities for them, maybe some talented kid can be found in this way, right? What’s more, what is the definition of “utilitarian”? Studying arts benefit to mental development and can explore kids’ creativity, which is scientifically proven. In this way, it can also be of great use in the long term, just as what is said in a Chinese proverb, “Something which seems useless can be a great use in the future”. Last but not least, as we have this memory: it is more relaxing in painting or music class at school. More art class can help release kids from pressure of solving math problems.

' data-srcset=

For decades, art is taught to children in schools. However, policymakers, administrators, and parents often debate on the importance of art in the school’s curriculum. This essay will discuss both facets of the argument, before arriving at my point of view. Numerous reasons lead people to believe that teaching art at school is quintessential. Firstly, art connects pupils to one’s culture and traditions. To be a responsible citizen, it is important for a person to know their roots and traditions, and teaching art in school familiarizes students with their artistic heritage such as paintings, folk dances, carpentry, etc. Furthermore, the proponents of arts also suggest that art develops cognitive abilities by broadening a child’s imagination. To substantiate, A study by the University of Oxford concludes that skills such as painting, sketching, etc., develop the IQ level of a student 30% higher than technical skills. Despite the benefits, the other school of thought suggests that art is not a wise investment of time for schools. The opponents of art often have a notion that studying art in school does not lead to a stable livelihood. A survey, conducted in 2019 by Stats Canada, reveals that 21% of arts graduates struggle to find jobs even after 6 months of graduation. Furthermore, some parents also argue that their children do not find art to be interesting. To expand further, the students, who love art, have developed the frontal cortex of the brain, which cherish creativity, and most of the students lack this development. Therefore, the art merely acts as a placeholder in their curriculum. On discussing both sides of the arguments, I believe that art plays a vital role in the holistic development of the children and therefore it should be taught in school. Furthermore, the administration should encourage professions in the field of art that can increase enthusiasm in parents to push their kids to study art at school.

Would you tell me please what the word ‘art’ really means? is it craft or painting?

(I asked this question anywhere else on your blog but can not locate now 🙁 )

Thanks a lot for you help.

There are two words which you need to learn: 1) The arts This relates to art and other skills which reflect human creativity and expression such as dancing, threatre, video making, design etc 2) art This relates to painting, drawing and sculpting. It is usually something created with hands or brushes and involves an image or picture being formed. This is a general definition.

IELTS Writing Task 2: ✍️ Everything You Need to Know

When helping students prepare for the IELTS test, one of the biggest fears is how to do well in IELTS Writing Task 2.

IELTS Writing Task 2 is the second part of the writing test, where you are presented with a point of view, argument or problem and asked to write an essay in response. Your essay should be in a formal style, at least 250 words in length and you should aim to complete it in under 40 minutes.

IELTS Writing Task 2: Everything You Need to Know

ielts writing task 2 essay on art

In this video, I’ll outline exactly what you must do to create an IELTS Writing Task 2 essay that could score a Band 7, 8 or 9.

It doesn’t matter if you’re new to IELTS or if you’ve failed the exam before – I’ve broken everything down into a simple 3-step process that anyone can use to improve their scores! Watch the video above to find out what they are.

5 Steps to a Band 7 in IELTS Writing Task 2

1. Understand the question.

You must understand the question before you attempt to answer it. This way, you’ll know exactly what the examiner is looking for. One of the biggest mistakes students make is not answering the question fully, which stops them from getting a score higher than a Band 5.

To analyse the question , you must first identify the question type, then identify the keywords in the question and finally identify the instructions words. This will help you understand exactly what the examiner wants you to do with the question.

2. Plan your answer.

The students who get the highest marks in Writing Task 2 always plan their answers for up to 10 minutes. Planning helps you organise your ideas and structure your essay before you write it, saving you time and helping you produce a clear and coherent essay.

3. Write an introduction.

The introduction should answer the question directly. This tells the examiner that you know what you are doing straight away and helps you write your main body paragraphs.

4. Write the main body paragraphs.

This is where you give the examiner more detail . You do this by stating your main points and supporting these with explanations and relevant examples.

5. Write a conclusion.

In your conclusion , you should provide a summary of what you already said in the rest of your essay.

4 Ways to Improve your Score in IELTS Writing Task 2

Many people know they need to improve their writing skills but don’t know how to do it. Here are 4 ways you can boost your score in Writing Task 2:

1. Understand the exam.

You must first understand what IELTS Writing Task 2 is, what you are expected to do and how to give the examiners what they want. This is the first stage and one that is often overlooked.

There are many online resources, often with conflicting and poor-quality information, so finding a reliable source of information is key.

2. Identify your weak areas.

If your car breaks down, you would try and identify which part caused the problem. If you get sick, your doctor will run tests to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.

IELTS Writing Task 2 is the same. We must first identify WHY you are not getting the score you need before we can help you improve.

However, be very careful! You wouldn’t ask the average man on the street for medical advice, so make sure you find someone who knows what they are doing and has the expertise to help you with this.

3. Fix the problems.

Now that we know what the problems are, we must fix them.

If your grammar needs work, fix those issues. If your vocabulary is lacking, work on fixing this issue.

Just as a good doctor can help you fix a medical problem, a good IELTS teacher can help you fix your specific issues.

4. Practice and get feedback.

Practice alone will not help you. It is an essential part of your preparation, but you must also get feedback on your work if you are really going to improve.

You wouldn’t try to teach yourself how to drive without an instructor, would you?

Find someone who will give you accurate and helpful feedback on your work. Otherwise, you will not be able to move to the last stage.

Now that you have understood what you need to do, identified the exact areas you need to work on, improved those areas, and received feedback on your work, you are now ready to get the IELTS Writing Task 2 score you deserve.

Writing Task 2 Structures

I want to warn you about structures because they are not a magic wand that will help you automatically get a higher score. They WILL help you, but please realise that they are just a small part of your overall score.

These structures provide a sentence-by-sentence template for all the main Task 2 question types, making your job much easier on exam day.

Essential Writing Task 2 Skills

ielts writing task 2 essay on art

No matter how good your English is, you must still learn IELTS writing skills before taking the Writing Task 2 test. These helpful guides will take you through each of these skills step-by-step:

  • How to Plan an Essay

Making a good plan actually saves you time when you write your essay. This guide will show you how to plan and write a clear essay every time.

  • How to Think of Relevant Ideas

This guide provides 5 different methods to help you quickly think of relevant ideas that are directly linked to the question.

  • How to Write a Complex Sentence

Complex sentences help you boost your score for grammar. They are actually very simple to write and are not complex at all.

  • How to Paraphrase

Paraphrasing is one of the essential IELTS skills for all parts of the IELTS test. You should paraphrase the question in the very first sentence of your essay to help boost your vocabulary score in Writing Task 2.

  • How to Write a Supporting Paragraph

Supporting paragraphs are the main body paragraphs and are the meat in the sandwich. This is where you provide the detail the examiner is looking for in the form of explanations and examples.

  • How to Write a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement tells the examiner your opinion. Many IELTS Writing Task 2 questions specifically ask for your opinion, and if you don’t write it clearly, you have not answered the question properly. This article shows you how, where and when to give your opinion.

How many words should I write?

Around 250 words? Exactly 250 words or over 250 words? How many words over? How do I know how many words I have? Will I lose marks if I write too many words? This article answers all those questions.

  • How to Understand and Analyse Any Question

A critical part of answering any question. This article shows you how to break down any Task 2 question and identify the keywords, micro-keywords and instruction words to help you answer the question effectively.

  • How to Write a Great Introduction

The introduction is the first thing the examiner reads; therefore, we must give them a good first impression. I share a very specific sentence-by-sentence structure in this article to help you write introductions quickly and effectively.

  • Task 2 Marking Criteria

Do you know how Task 2 is marked? What is the difference between a Band 5 and a Band 8 answer? This article breaks down the marking criteria and explains it in simple language so you can give the IELTS examiners exactly what they want.

  • How to Write a Conclusion

A good conclusion should be a summary of your main points. The conclusion is the last thing the examiner reads, and if you can write a good one, you will leave them with a very good impression.

  • Using Examples

Each of your supporting paragraphs should have a specific example that supports and illustrates your main point. This is an essential skill to learn if you want to get one of the higher band scores.

  • Cohesive Devices

Cohesive devices (sometimes called linking words) are one of the most misunderstood and misused elements of writing. Therefore, you must learn how to use them and when to use them.

  • The Danger of Synonyms

While synonyms are very important, they can also really reduce your mark if used incorrectly.

  • Paragraphing and Editing

This article will show you how to make your writing as clear and as easy to read as possible. It will also advise you on whether to use a pen or pencil.

  • Agree or Disagree (Opinion) Lesson

In this lesson, we look at how to tackle an ‘agree or disagree’ question. Many people worry about whether to take one side of the other or discuss both sides. Additionally, people also worry about how to deal with ‘To what extent’ question types. We allay all of these fears in this lesson.

  • Discussion Essay Lesson

‘Discuss both views’ questions often confuse people because you are asked to do many things in one essay. As such, it is very important to remember that the question asks you to discuss BOTH views AND give YOUR opinion.

  • Problem and Solution Essay Lesson

These questions are much easier than you think. You probably discuss problems and solutions in your day-to-day life all the time. Keep it simple.

ielts writing task 2 essay on art

Grammar is one of the four things you will be marked on in the Writing Task 2 test. Finding out what your common grammar mistakes are and then fixing them is a very powerful way to boost your score in this area. Here are some common grammar mistakes I have found after making hundreds of tests.

  • Top 10 Grammar Mistakes

For most IELTS students, the problem is not grammar in general. In fact, it is usually just 1-2 problem areas. Therefore, when you fix these main weaknesses, you’ll be able to improve your grammar and your writing score dramatically.

  • Using Personal Pronouns

Hint- They aren’t as big of a deal as you think.

Yes, you will find them at the link below:

Will using 'high level' or 'academic' words help me improve my score?

Probably not.

Read my recent article about IELTS vocabulary here:

5 Things You Need to Know about IELTS Vocabulary

Can I use idioms?

No, you should not write idioms for Task 2.

Can I use personal pronouns?

You should avoid using personal pronouns, but it is fine to use them when giving your personal opinion.

Do you write a conclusion for Task 2?

Yes, it is very difficult to get a good score in Task 2 if you haven't finished your essay with a conclusion. You will find an in-depth lesson on conclusions here:

How to Write an Effective Task 2 Conclusion

How many paragraphs should I write?

Most IELTS task 2 essays follow the same basic four paragraph structure:

  • Introduction
  • Supporting Paragraph 1
  • Supporting Paragraph 2

However, you can find more comprehensive help with structuring your Task 2 essays here:

5 Day Challenge

Do I need to plan my essay?

I would highly recommend planning your essay. A good plan acts like a map that guides you through the essay, ensuring that you give the examiner exactly what they need to award you the score you need. You can find help with planning your essays here: How to Plan an IELTS Essay

You must write at least 250 words in Writing Task 2.

I would suggest that you aim to write around 270-280 words in total. Aiming for 20-30 words more than the required amount makes you more likely to reach the word limit without setting an unrealistic goal.

Will I lose marks if I don't write enough words?

Yes, if you don't write the required number of words, you will lose marks in 'Task Achievement' for not answering the question fully. Read more here .

Can I use contractions?

No, should not use contractions when you are writing an academic essay.

Band 9 sample essay about art

Many governments in the world spend large amounts of money on art, which helps to improve the quality of people’s lives. however, governments should spend money on other things rather than art. do you agree or disagree give your opinion..

Societies with a heritage in the ‘arts’ have long been considered culturally sophisticated and advanced. However, with the recent financial crisis this lavishness and expense should be questioned. Tax-payers’ money has to be spent practically rather than on cultural endeavours. Firstly, not everyone in society appreciates art, and, secondly, employment should take precedence.

Art can bring quality into one’s life if you are interested. In society art-lovers are typically in the minority, and other activities, such as sports are more popular. Take football, for example. Across the globe it is obvious that there are more people watching matches in stadiums than looking at sculptures or art. This fact makes it impossible that art can bring quality into a community if the galleries hold little interest for the region.

Secondly, the resources diverted to such projects come from the public and should be spent in a way that benefits them. Commissioning or purchasing art is an insult to taxpayers who endure high unemployment, such as, those in Newcastle, UK. This city suffers from historically high unemployment, yet the council commissioned a large sculpture called ‘The Angel of the North’. Financing a job creation project would undoubtedly have been more practical for the local community.

To conclude, I believe that it is an unjust affirmation that art brings quality into one’s life, and I agree that the money should be spent elsewhere. This is because art expenditures only benefit a small minority and secondly the expense involved should benefit the majority. Ideally in the future, governments will recognise that quality in a person’s life derives from a decent opportunity in life, not a sculpture.

The Essay Writing section of the IELTS Writing Module can be a difficult task for many IELTS Aspirants. Thus, it is vital that you polish your essay writing skills before attempting the IELTS.

Below is a sample IELTS Essay for the IELTS Essay topic:

Some people think that museums and art galleries should concentrate on the history and art of their own country rather than the works of art of other parts of the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Opinion essay

Introduction

Paraphrase the topic of the essay.

Clearly give a prelude to the essay and what could be expected from it- Some individuals opine that these institutions should primarily focus on their local history and art instead of global works of art. I, however, largely disagree with this viewpoint as international works provide various benefits to the public.

Paragraph 1- Museums and art galleries offer a medium to understanding cultural heritage. By focusing on local history and art only, such institutions limit the knowledge of the public to the domestic borders. Conversely, if art and history from other parts of the world are displayed, museums and art galleries exhibit multiculturalism, allowing people to understand distinct histories and cultures, and thus, enhancing globalization.

Paragraph 2- International historical and cultural works would allow individuals to gain information on critical international issues that many countries face together. Many museums choose to have educational international exhibitions of important political and social issues, which may be more informative than the media.

Give a conclusion to the essay by giving an inference about the essay written.

Museums and art galleries play an important role in offering multifaceted knowledge to the public. Some individuals opine that these institutions should primarily focus on their local history and art instead of global works of art . I, however, largely disagree with this viewpoint as international works provide various benefits to the public.

Museums and art galleries offer a medium to understanding cultural heritage . By focusing on local history and art only, such institutions limit the knowledge of the public to the domestic borders . Conversely, if art and history from other parts of the world are displayed, museums and art galleries exhibit multiculturalism, allowing people to understand distinct histories and cultures, and thus, enhancing globalization . For example, the Vatican museum exhibits works from several European countries, allowing the smallest country in the world to be a bridge to explaining the cultural values of distinct nations under one roof.

Moreover, international historical and cultural works would allow individuals to gain information on critical international issues that many countries face together. Many museums choose to have educational international exhibitions of important political and social issues, which may be more informative than the media. For instance, the Melbourne Art Gallery has collections from across the globe in order to depict thoughts on poverty, war and trade , and in a survey, 88% of visitors declared that they felt more informed about such issues from the museum than from the news.

Countries might fear the loss of cultural heritage owing to having a multicultural setup of museums, however, that is not the case, one never tends to diverge and bias the topics of history on the basis of nativity.

In conclusion, I disagree to a large extent with the belief that museums and art galleries should focus on the history and art of their own country rather than international works, as with the latter, these museums and galleries build a platform for globalization and multinational knowledge.

Humans have always been fascinated and intrigued by the enchanting chronicles of the past, certain historical events, etc. To aid that fascination, libraries and museums have played a major role. One gets to know a lot of details about the epoch and era they were never a part of. Some people say that a country should only be particular about their own culture and artefacts when it comes to their national museums to which I entirely disagree. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I shall be propounding about my beliefs in this regard.

Museums have remarkably assisted in safeguarding and preserving our ancestral whereabouts and know-how. Had it not been there, we wouldn’t have ever come to feel and know the accounts of the incredible past and astounding records. Now when it comes to being specific for a certain nation, it shall be extremely erroneous to even think of it. It not only diminishes the knowledge of people but also impedes the process of harmony. The world we are living in today was not always the same politically, it wasn’t divided into provinces and nations as we have today from the beginning. Hence, history is a shared resource and couldn’t be deemed to one particular authority to have sole rights over the events that took place on a particular ground. One gets to know about the cultural, traditional and lifestyle of their forefathers and lineage through correlating the elements of an era and hence fosters and fortifies international and multicultural relationships. For instance, an Indian would not be disinterested in knowing about European or Greek civilizations.

From the biological and historical perspectives as well, it shall be a massive deterrent to the growth of it, if at all, narrowing and gnawing off the resources to peep into the past of other nations get permitted and hence, tapering off the insights into the evolutionary revolutions. It would be a great impediment in the scientific endeavours and hence, shall be curbing the growth of humanity too. Therefore, it is extremely illogical and awful to limiting a nation’s or a region’s museum to its own confinements. Many a time a nation undergoing severities could be prevented from getting into the boundaries of a catastrophe by learning about similar episodes and the solutions they resorted to getting the way out of it and hence limiting the shades of the past of other regions could imperil the future of the possible threat that could be invoked on a country.

Though one might contend that incorporating other national artefacts and preserves could cut short the essence of native culture and heritage. However, if the art galleries are handled and planned meticulously, that problem would be defenestrated.

In conclusion, therefore, it could be said that museums and art galleries should foster national and international artworks as it only helps the present as well as the generations to come.

nuclear power essay ielts

Nuclear Power Essay IELTS Sample Answer

Nuclear power is a very debated topic in every convention and has always been questioned for the bad it does rather than its good. In my opinion, nuclear power needs to be used, and the user should also be controlled and hedged with renewable energy sources as they are the only viable solution. Nuclear plants currently provide 11% of the world’s electricity. With an ever-increasing demand for electricity being seen everywhere and the fossil fuels reducing each day, it is now more important than ever that major decisions should be made. In the upcoming decades, energy consumption will only increase and meet the rising demand; nuclear power plants will be required as they are the best source of traditional energy-producing sources. Although nuclear power plants are required, it is also necessary to gradually push renewable energy sources and promote them to create a sustainable future for future generations. Nuclear power plants’ waste disposal and radioactivity are the concerning factors that have been the hot topic of most debates at conventions and meetings. In addition to that, a single misuse of this tremendous power can result in the disruption of life for all mankind. Striking a balance between the two will be crucial in the coming time as global warming and the energy crisis are on a constant rise. If nothing is done in the near time, countries could get submerged underwater within the coming decades, and the entire world will have to fight for survival.

Writing Task 2

The writing section of the IELTS exam consists of two sections. Writing task 2 is an essay writing task that requires deep thinking and coherence. This task will be our focus for this blog, as the rules and guidelines of the IELTS exam can be confusing for students appearing for the first time. Writing task 2 has the subsequent guidelines:

  • The essay should have a minimum of 250 words. An essay written in less than 250 words will be penalised and negatively marked. There is no penalty for writing a longer essay, but it will cause you to stray off-topic and waste time.
  • 40 minutes is a good enough time to complete this task and will leave you with time to recheck your answer.
  • The essay’s contents should be written with perfect grammar and solely focused on the topic.
  • You can be penalised if you stray off-topic while writing your essay. All the sentences must be related and formed to provide a clear view and information.
  • The content must be well structured to fetch the best results and have proper cohesion between the sentences.
  • The tone of your answer must be academic or semi-formal and should discuss the given topic at length and focus on proper and sophisticated language.
  • Using bullet points and notes is not allowed in the IELTS exam . The real answer must be written together and broken into paragraphs to better examine your writing style and structure.

Structure of Essay in Writing Task 2

The structure of the essay in writing task 2 is the base of your essay, and a clear idea of the structure will make it much easier for you to finish the essay on time. The structure of the essay can be broken down in the following way:

  • First Paragraph
  • Second Paragraph
  • Third Paragraph
  • Fourth Paragraph

The first paragraph of your essay should provide a small introduction to the topic and provide an opinion of yours about what side you are on about the topic. The first paragraph should be minimal and to the point. A clear and concise introduction leaves a good impression on the examiner. The second paragraph should begin with your stance on the topic. The first sentence should provide clarity on your stance. The second sentence should build on that idea and delve deeper into the specifics. The next sentences are suitable for providing an example and developing it in detail. You can make up research studies and quote them in your essay to support your point. At the end of the paragraph, end with a statement that sums up the overall idea of the paragraph and supports the idea you started with. The third paragraph is very similar in structure to the second paragraph. The main objective of this paragraph is to provide either the opposite view of the topic or discuss new ideas that touch on a different perspective of the topic but ultimately support your opinion. The structuring is the same as in the second paragraph, with minute changes. The fourth paragraph is the conclusion of your essay and, just like the introduction, should be minimal. Summing up your essay with a statement supporting your opinion and overall idea is best advised.

Frequently asked questions, 1. what are the pros and cons of nuclear power.

Ans: Nuclear energy is a widely used method of production of electricity. The benefits of nuclear technology and the main advantages of nuclear power are: a. No production of harmful gases that cause air pollution b. Clean source of energy c. Low cost of fuel d. Long-life once constructed e. A massive amount of energy produced f. Unlike most energy production methods, nuclear energy does not contribute to the increase in global warming

Disadvantages: a. Very high cost of construction of the facility. b. Waste produced is very toxic and requires proper and safe disposal, which is costly. c. If any accident happens, it can have a major impact on everyone and can be devastating. d. Mining of uranium 235, which is nuclear fuel, is very expensive.

2. Does Japan have a plan for dealing with its own nuclear waste problem?

Ans: As per the latest news and research, Japan does not have a proper nuclear waste dumping structure even after the Fukushima disaster in 2011. The Fukushima disaster was caused by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 and caused meltdowns and hydrogen explosions at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Reactor. It was the worst recorded nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. Japan is said to have enough nuclear waste to create nuclear arsenals. In April 2021, Japan declared they would be dumping 1.2 million tonnes of nuclear waste into the sea. This is the same Japan that called the 1993 ocean dumping by Russia “extremely regrettable.” The discharges are bound to begin by 2023, and various legal proceedings and protests have been going on inside Japan against this inhuman decision that would destroy marine life.

3. How many countries have nuclear power plants?

Ans : Currently, 32 countries in the world possess nuclear power plants within their boundaries.

4. Why do people oppose nuclear power?

Ans: Opposition to nuclear power has been a long-standing issue. It is backed by a variety of reasons which are as follows:Nuclear waste is hard to dispose of, and improper disposal affects the radioactivity levels and can disrupt the normal life of people as well as animals. Nuclear technology is another concern of people as the usage of nuclear power plants leads to deeper research into the nuclear field. In today’s world, anything can be weaponised, and the threat of nuclear weapons is one of the drawbacks of nuclear power. This brings the threat of nuclear war and disruption of world peace. Any attack on nuclear power plants by terrorist organisations can result in a massive explosion that can disrupt and destroy human life and increase radioactivity to alarming levels around the site of the explosion.

5. What is the best way to dispose of nuclear waste?

Ans: Nuclear waste needs to be disposed of properly to prevent radioactive issues in the environment. The best methods to dispose of nuclear waste are as follows: a. Incineration : Radioactive waste can be incinerated in large scale incinerators with low production of waste. b. Deep burial: Nuclear waste can be buried deep into the ground as the radioactivity of nuclear waste wears off over time. This method is used for waste that is highly radioactive and will take a longer time to lose its radioactivity. c. Storage: Nuclear waste with low radioactivity is stored by some countries in storage. This is because their radioactive decay takes lesser time and can be disposed of safely once the radiation wears off.

6. Is it possible to produce electricity without using fossil fuels?

Ans: At the moment, 11% of the world’s electricity is produced by nuclear power plants alone. Replacing fossil fuel-based energy with renewable needs to be done gradually and properly. Renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, and wind will have to be promoted and pushed to create a sustainable future. Renewable energy sources provide cheap energy, do not use up natural resources and fossil fuels and are much cheaper to construct than a nuclear power station.
