Thank you so much for making these free! I run a reading ministry for underserved students. The kids call us Book Grandmas and Book Grandpas because we give them books every month. Being able to know a bit about them before we start is fun! and gives us a hint as to what books they might enjoy reading. Thanks again!

What a wonderful ministry you run! We love that the kids have such a sweet name for you all. It’s amazing to hear how these worksheets are helping you get to know them better and choose the perfect books. Thank you for all the incredible work you do! ❤️

All About Me Worksheets

Printable-All-About-Me-Worksheets-Feature-Image

The beginning of a new school year is very exciting for both teachers and students. Each looks forward to getting to know one another. But with the number of students in each class, it can take a while for teachers to learn everyone’s favorite things, their likes and dislikes, and their background. We try to make it easy for teachers to get that information by creating 50 “getting to know me” worksheets to have students complete. Each has a different layout and varying questions or fill-in-the-blanks so your students can fill you in on everything you need to know. It’s always interesting to see what everyone has to say about themselves and is a great way to connect with each child.

We’ve also made 20 About Me worksheets for older students and adults as a quick way to get to know an older audience or simply to use as an icebreaker! See the “ All About Me Worksheets For Older Students & Adults” section towards the bottom of this post!

While these are a wonderful resource for teachers, they are also perfect for interviews with your own children at the beginning of the year. Have your child fill out their worksheet at the beginning of each school year and again at the end of the year to see how they’ve changed! And the best part of all is that they’re 100% free to print from the comfort of your own home. All you need to do is select which one(s) you like from the options below, click to download the PDF file to your computer, and print! It really is as easy as that!

And don’t forget, after you’re finished having your child fill in their sheet to have them pose for their “first day of school” picture holding one of these free printable  First Day of School Signs  – there are SO many options to choose from and even a few editable versions. You are sure to find one you love!

P.S. If you’re a teacher or a parent (or both!) to any preschool- or kindergarten-aged children, you’ll want to check out our free printable  Letter A Worksheets . We have 50 free worksheets and activities to get your child well on their way to learning the first letter of the alphabet! You might also like our free printable Student Information Sheets as a way to gather information about your students and their homes.

“All About Me” Math Activity Ideas: Worksheets, Games, And Challenges

April 19, 2024 //  by  Josilyn Markel

Too often, people think of math as a “cold” lesson, where there isn’t a lot of room for self-expression. But that’s just not the case! Math can be a brilliant way to explain who we are, what we like, and our hopes and dreams for the future. We’ve collected thirty of the best math activities to help your students unleash their creative potential and really explain themselves using numbers. These are great options for the first week of school, or for whenever you need to incorporate a bit of expressive creativity into your math tasks.

1. “All About Me” in Numbers

This activity is great for kids who are just starting to learn numbers. It’s a great way to introduce the concept of measurement, and how different numbers represent different physical characteristics in the real world. It’s also perfect for review on the first day of school after a long school break.

Learn More: JDaniel4’s Mom

2. “Math About Me” for Middle School Students

This worksheet is geared toward middle school students and teachers who want to get to know each other better. It goes through some physical attributes as well as hobbies and other interests; making it one of the great first weeks of school activities for middle school.

Learn More: Twinkl

3. My Life in Percentages

With this activity that focuses on fractions and percentages, students can share about their hobbies and how they spend their time. It’s a fun way to get to know who your students are outside of the classroom, and a great way to review percentages and decimals at the beginning of the school year.

Learn More: Math Goodies

4. Autobiographical Formulas: “Figure Me Out”

You can take the all about me math to the next level when you have students create their own formulas to describe themselves. Rather than just counting and writing numbers, have students formulate math problems to represent these values. Then, have kids swap papers and solve the equations to learn more about their classmates!

Learn More: Jennifer Orgill

5. Craft Project

With this engaging craft activity, students can use math and number literacy to create a masterpiece. It combines elements of color-by-number and level-appropriate arithmetic to help students explore math and themselves as they make a lovely art project.

Learn More: Create Abilities

6. Math in My Life Worksheet

This worksheet targets multiplication skills, so it’s perfect as a math review and a get-to-know-you activity during the first weeks of school. Students will learn more about their teacher and classmate, plus they’ll be able to show and revise their multiplication skills in the process.

Learn More: Multiplication

7. Math Class “Truth or Dare”

This is one of those middle school resources that draws directly on everyone’s favorite sleepover game. Of course, all of the prompts are appropriate and serve as a guide for students who might otherwise not want to jump into math. It’s also perfect for getting to know one another and building rapport at the beginning of the school year.

Learn More: Cognitive Cardio Math

8. Measuring with Blocks Worksheet

This is a fun math resource for young kids who are learning to count. Using one-inch blocks, help students measure the different distances and record the numbers on the paper. Then, use the body measurement activity to practice comparing lengths.

Learn More: Lesson Plans

9. Give Me a Minute

With this worksheet, students have to predict how many times they’d be able to complete something in one minute. Then, for some extra classroom fun, students get to test their predictions! This is a perfect way to learn about real-time student data while also getting kids up and moving in the middle of the school day.

10. “Footloose” Game

Students follow a series of instructions and questions that guide them through a build-your-own adventure game. The game is differentiated so that the teacher can understand the student’s level based on their outcome. This middle school bundle is a great way to start off the new year or semester in your math class!

Learn More: Teachers Pay Teachers

11. Me, By the Numbers

This elementary school math craft combines level-appropriate math skills with a creative twist. By the end of the lesson, students will each have a lovely display of who they are and their strengths in math. The main piece is a printable template, and students use coded colors to fill in the spaces. They also fill in the blanks with “their” numbers as they go along.

Learn More: Math Coach’s Corner

12. Explaining Me with Math: Measuring Together

This activity relies on non-standard measurement to help kids practice counting and contextualizing ideas of numbers and length. It’s a perfect introduction for young learners, and it’s fun to see all of the different ways kids come up with for measuring.

Learn More: Mrs. Sol’s Class

13. Writing Formulas with Math About Me

This middle school activity packet takes “all about me” math to the next level because it has kids writing their own formulas and equations to describe themselves. It’s perfect for reviewing the order of operations and pre-algebra concepts at the beginning of the school year.

Learn More: 4mula Fun

14. First Day of School Introduction with Numbers

In the first few weeks of school, it can take some time to get to know your students. But with a one-page coloring activity that allows you to see your students at a glance, you’ll be building rapport in no time. This is a worksheet that kids can complete and then use to introduce themselves to their classmates.

15. Numbers About Me Poster

This is a great option for elementary or middle school activities or bulletin boards. It’s a poster that each child can decorate and you can hang it in the classroom for the first couple weeks of school. This way, each student can feel truly represented: not only by the numbers but also by their own handiwork!

Learn More: Amazon

16. Differentiated Math About Me Worksheet

This worksheet offers several different levels so that you can use it in the differentiated classroom. You can give different versions of the worksheet to different students, based on their performance and level of mastery up to that point. Plus, you can offer the more difficult version at the end of the semester to measure growth.

Learn More: Math Geek Mama

17. Preschool STEAM Challenge

Here is a series of STEAM challenges that are aimed at helping preschoolers explore themselves and the very basics of math and engineering. They’re all hands-on projects, which is great for stations and small group activities.

Learn More: Preschool STEAM

18. Grit and Grow Mindset Math Challenge

This bundle includes school activities that combine math, getting-to-know-you activities, and social and emotional training. This worksheet and the accompanying activities challenge kids to look at their own mindset when it comes to math class; the main idea is to bring the growth mindset into the math classroom.

19. Make Your Own Math About Me Banner

You can use this printable banner template and let your kids get creative in math class. It’s a great resource that teachers can use to decorate the classroom, too. Plus, it’s motivating for kids to see their work displayed in the classroom.

20. Math Discussion Cards

These discussion cards will get kids talking about math. You can make the questions easier or more difficult, based on the level of your students. It’s important for kids to be able to verbalize what they’re learning and understanding, and these cards help prompt those discussions!

21. Picture Books for the Math Classroom

Here is a great list of picture books that will get young learners interested in and excited about math class. The illustrations are engaging, and they will prompt conversation among the students; ultimately providing insight into who they are.

Learn More: Think, Grow, Giggle

22. Math Class “Scavenger Hunt in Your Seat”

Play this classic matching game individually or in pairs. The mini-response task cards are a perfect way to catch high schoolers’ attention and get them motivated to learn more math! Students take a small deck of cards and complete the math problems there. Then, based on their answers, they should identify corresponding items in the classroom or wherever they are.

Learn More: Robin Cornecki

23. “Meet the Mathematicians” Worksheet

Kids are more motivated to learn about math when they view themselves as “mathematicians,” so this activity will help them set goals and stay motivated to meet those aims. This template puts the student in the role of mathematician, and they fill in the blanks with their own personal info.

24. “My Life in Numbers” for Young Learners

This is a whole-class “my life in numbers” activity, but it is specifically designed for preschool kids who are just learning to count. It’s perfect for doing at home with your child before you send them off to school, too. The activity involves following the prompts that ask “how many” questions. Then, find the specified item, and start counting away!

25. Number Hunt in Jelly

This activity can get a bit messy, but it’s a perfect way to build up number recognition and fine motor skills for young learners. All you need are some plastic numbers and some jello, and you have an amazing task that will get kids excited to learn more about math!

Learn More: Hazeldene Family Centre

26. Back to School Math Activities for 4th and 5th Graders

Learn More: Teaching with Jennifer Findley

27. “All About Me” Book

This is a pretty comprehensive packet that takes 2nd-grade students through all of the major math points throughout the school year, all while encouraging them to reflect on who they are and understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Learn More: Marcy Bernethy Saddle Up for 2nd Grade

All About Me Activities: Celebrate What Makes You 'Different'

Shaped Headshot Osmith 1

It took me a long time to realize that “different” is a positive thing. Being different is unique, distinct, and cool . And we ALL learn, grow, evolve, and change in different ways. It is our multiplicity as humans that makes us so special. But when I was a student, the last thing I ever wanted to be considered—by my peers or my teachers—was “different.”

As educators, how do we help students overcome the stigma of being labeled “different”? And how do we advocate for all our different learners to deliver results for each unique student?

Patricia Starek , a former middle school Special Education teacher, wrote a poem, “Different,” which celebrates teaching students with disabilities and the differences that make educators so special. Below is an excerpt:

You are different That “crazy” Middle School Wild teacher Resolute Non-Conformist Big heart Book Lovers Brain on fire with metaphor and belief The one who loves math enough to teach it to those who hate it How do you do it?

I encourage you to listen to the entire poem here (or print out a poster version for a little extra motivation). Patricia’s words hit home for me. And, really, how do you do it?

At HMH, we want to help educators celebrate their differences and what makes their students different. So we pulled together a couple of free all about me activities for you to help illustrate how being different is the best way to be!

All About Me Activities for Elementary Students: We're Different/We're Alike Venn Diagram

In this All About Me activity for elementary school, students will use a Venn diagram to describe the ways in which they are similar and different.

What You Need

  • All About Me ( PDF file )
  • All About Us Venn Diagram ( PDF file )
  • Ask students to think about ways in which they are similar to their classmates and ways in which they are different.
  • Give each student an All About Me worksheet and have students complete them.
  • Arrange students in pairs. Give each pair an All About Us Venn Diagram. Have them compare their All About Me lists and complete the Venn diagram.
  • Discuss the results as a class. Which pair had the most in common? Which pair was the most different?

Other Ideas:

  • Create a word cloud of all the things that make your students “different.”
  • Make a larger version of the Venn diagram to compare how everyone in the class is similar and different.

All About Me Activities for Middle School: Celebrating What Makes Me Unique Essay

In this all about me activity for middle school, students will write personal narratives that are designed to help them reflect on what makes them unique.

  • Give students two minutes to jot down words or phrases that come to mind when they hear the word different . Then have them share some of their responses with the class as you write them on the board.
  • Using open-ended questions, lead the class in a brief discussion about what it means to be considered “different.”
  • Instruct students to make personal lists of ways they feel they are different and unique and how they’ve embraced their differences. Have them select the one thing that has the most significance to them.
  • A description of the difference
  • The impact it has had on their life
  • The student's feelings about it
  • Use the writing process to develop the essays. When the pieces are complete, they may be shared in a small peer-response group.

Teaching Options

  • Reshape the essays into other writing forms, such as short stories, newspaper articles, or poetry, like Patricia’s slam poem from above. Students may also use music, dance, or art to express what they want to say.
  • Plan a reading for parents, and select a few students to share their pieces. Then, conduct a follow-up discussion with parents about the changes of early adolescence.
  • Collect and publish the writing pieces in a school literary journal.

Curious about how to add "all about me" activities to your first day of school or SEL lesson plans? Take a peek at this primer from our teacher team!

What Is an All About Me Worksheet?

The name would seem to say it all, but we have to start somewhere!

All about me worksheets are a valuable tool for fostering a sense of community in the classroom and gathering information about your students that can help you build a solid teacher-student relationship.

Each worksheet typically includes a series of questions that prompt your students to provide personal information about themselves, their interests, hobbies, family and more.

With that information available, you have valuable insights into your students' minds and backgrounds that can help you tailor instruction to meet their needs throughout the school year.

You can also use these worksheets and questions as the cornerstone of your "getting to know you" activities as you bring new students together to form a classroom community.

How to Use an All About Me Template With Students

Did you find an "all about me" worksheet in our collection that you're excited to use and looking for more ideas? Here are some tips from the Teach Starter teacher team!

a student's all about me activity sits on a teacher's desk, surrounded by colored pencils

  • Use editable "all about me" templates to help students get to know their new classmates when they go back to school.
  • Create a bulletin board featuring the students' all about me worksheets — all filled out — for parents to review at your back to school night, open house or on a meet the teacher night.
  • Use "all about me" worksheets to help students learn to talk about characteristics in ELA.
  • Planning student of the month or student of the week celebrations? Have your special student complete an all about me and present it to their classmates!
  • Plan group activities by looking over your students' all about questions to find similarities.

5 Get-to-Know-Me Activities for Middle School

all about me assignment middle school

We know the #1 component that leads to immersive learning starts with relationships. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of five get-to-know-me activities for middle school that actually work! That’s right… Not “another” ice breaker but fun and meaningful activities to get to know the personalities in your class this year and for them to get to know YOU too!

1. This or That?

Help students find common ground with each other in this easy activity that gets students on their feet and mingling with each other. Prepare some statements that encourage students to take a stand or voice an opinion on a casual topic like “pizza is better than pasta.” Students then have to pick a side and physically move to the side of the room that represents their position. As a team, they take turns presenting their position to the class. This activity not only builds students’ confidence as they share their perspectives with their new classmates but also lets students see what they have in common with each other.

Here are some examples of this or that statements:

  • I would rather vacation in the mountains than at the beach.
  • Living in space is better than living underwater.
  • Attending a concert is better than going to the movies/theater.
  • One month without electronics is better than one month without junk food.
  • I would rather have no money than no time.

2. Get-to-know-you Bingo

What better way to get to know each other than by asking each other questions? In get-to-know-you Bingo, each student receives a 5×5 Bingo card. Each square has a specific characteristic like “is left-handed”, “plays the piano”, or “has an elder sibling”, “has the same birth month as you”. You can create your own, or use an online tool like this to create them.

Students ask each other questions to find a classmate who fits the criteria for each box. The first student to get BINGO wins, but the game can be extended to ensure all students complete the entire card. This game is sure to get students chattering as they discover interesting tidbits about their new classmates!

3. Class Playlist

“Where words fail, music speaks.” – Hans Christian Andersen

For middle school students going through physical, mental, and emotional changes, music is a way to express themselves. Creating a class playlist can be a great way for students to showcase their personalities, even the shy ones who hesitate to speak up. Ask students to contribute a song of their choice to a class playlist and let them bond through shared tastes in music. This playlist could also come in handy throughout the school year for an impromptu dance party!

4. Sweet Secrets

If you want to get to know your students better and win brownie points for being the sweetest teacher (pun intended!), you’ll love this activity. Bring a bag of colored candy (Skittles are a good option!) to class and announce that everyone can take as many as they want from the bag. After each student has collected their candy, reveal that each color corresponds to a category (e.g. yellow for sports, red for food). For every piece of candy, they have to share a fact about themselves related to that category. For example, if a student has two yellow candies and one red candy, they might say – I broke my leg rollerblading last year, I hate swimming, and I’m allergic to peanuts.

For a more intimate sharing session, put students in small groups to encourage discussion and deeper connections. Allowing students to get to know each other in a smaller group setting also nurtures SEL skills and fosters more authentic relationships among new classmates. And of course, everyone gets to enjoy their candy at the end of the session!

5. Summer Pen pals

The first day of middle school can be downright scary for some students – new teachers, new classmates, possibly even a new school! Help ease your students’ first-day jitters by setting them up with summer pen pals. Students will have their summer vacation to exchange emails and get to know each other better – and a friendly face to navigate the first days of school!

Randomly put students in your class in pairs or groups and start them off with some questions that encourage them to share more about themselves. You could even model the activity for them by sharing a fun introduction of yourself! Not only will it put students at ease knowing who their teacher and some of their classmates are going into the school year, but it is also a great way to learn more about your students and their writing abilities before the year starts. An extension of this activity could be to ask them to bring a hand-written letter to give to their pen pals on the first day of school!

Use this All About Me Bag Activity with a free printable as a fun way to get to know students the first days of school

All About Me Bag Activity Ideas and Instructions

Use this All About Me Bag Activity with a free printable as a fun way to get to know students the first days of school

What is an "All About Me Bag?"

An "All About Me Bag" is basically a structured, back to school show and tell.

Give students an empty lunch sack with instructions (find free printable instructions below).  The instructions tell students to decorate the bag with words and pictures that describe them or are important to them. Then, they choose 3 school appropriate objects that will fit in the bag to share with the class.

When students bring their bags back the next day, they will share their bag with the class.

I would usually give students this as a "homework" assignment the first day of school.

All About Me Bag - Free Printable Instructions

Use these free All About Me Bag Labels to give as instructions to your 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.

These instruction tell students to bring 3 objects that:

  •  Fit in the bag (so that this activity doesn't take up too much space in your classroom)
  • Are school appropriate
  • Are not very valuable (to prevent problems with parents if things get lost or stolen)
  • Reflect something that is important to the student or their life

Use these free All About Me Bag Labels in your own upper elementary classroom.

All About Me Bag Example

Before sending your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade students home with their "All About Me Bags," model sharing your own bag with them so they know what is expected.  Bonus: It's a chance for them to get to know you a little better as well.

As my "All About Me Bag" example, I would usually include:

  • a picture of my husband and me hiking
  • a dog treat

These 3 items gave me a chance to talk about my husband, my dogs, and some of my favorite hobbies - hiking and reading.  These 3 items summed up some of the most important parts of my life that I wanted to share with students.

I have found that by providing these 3 examples was enough to get my students' creative juices flowing, but if they need more ideas you could suggest things like:

  • a small piece of equipment from a sport they like to play (like a glove or a sock)
  • a favorite video game box/container
  • pictures of family
  • a piece from a favorite board game
  • the recipe for a favorite food
  • a favorite accessory (necklace, bracelet, etc.)
  • a memento from a trip or vacation

Back to School Bundle

Save yourself some time, stress, and over 40% those first weeks of school with this back to school bundle. It includes:

  • No Prep Emergency Sub Plans
  • No Prep Beginning of the Year Fun Packet
  • A Classroom Procedure Review Activity
  • An Interview a Friend Activity
  • What I Wish My Teacher Knew About Me
  • Back to School Ice Breakers & Writing Prompts
  • Classroom Procedures Checklist

The Benefits of Using This as an Ice Breaker

Building a positive classroom community is one of the most important things you will do at the beginning of the school year.  There are a lot of ways to do this:

  • back to school activities and ice breakers
  • team building discussion questions
  • other All About Me ideas
  • team building activities

However, the All About Me Bag activity has an advantage that most other back to school activities don't.  It provides students with a low stress opportunity to get in front of the entire class and speak.

It is important for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to feel comfortable speaking in front of the class.  Yet this is terrifying for a lot of students.  An activity like this can help students feel more comfortable, because there are no wrong answers - they will be talking about themselves.

You might also like these other back to school activities and ideas.

Never Stress Over Sub Plans Again!
