Importance of Holidays for Working People

Holidays for working people are somewhat similar to what they mean for students. In fact, they carry more importance to them than students. Though they are adults, they also yearn for the holidays. Why so? They do not get as many holidays as students do.

Most importantly, the holiday no matter how little it gives them a great chance to relax. More so because they work tirelessly for so many hours a day without a break. Some even work when they get home. This makes their schedule very hectic and gives them little time to rest. A holiday fills the gap for this rest.

After all, when a person earns, they must spend it on something recreational from time to time so they also remain happy and work happily.

Thus, we see how holidays play an important role in maintaining a great balance between our work and play. We must try to make the most of the holidays and spend them wisely so we do not waste time. Short Essay On Holiday

A holiday is a period of time set aside for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. It is a time for people to break away from their daily routine and engage in activities that bring them joy and happiness. Holidays can be spent with family, friends, or alone and can range from short trips to long vacations.

One of the most significant benefits of holidays is the opportunity to relax and unwind. People can use the time to recharge their batteries and reduce stress levels. This is particularly important in today’s fast-paced society, where people are constantly connected to technology and work. Taking a break from the daily grind can help individuals return to work with renewed energy and focus.

Another benefit of holidays is the opportunity to experience new cultures and environments. Traveling to different countries and regions can expose people to different lifestyles, beliefs, and traditions. This can broaden their perspective and deepen their understanding of the world. Holidays can also be a time for personal growth and development, allowing individuals to learn new skills, try new activities, and challenge themselves in new ways.

In addition to the personal benefits, holidays can also have a positive impact on relationships. Spending quality time with family and friends can strengthen bonds and create new memories. This is particularly important for families with children, as holidays can be a time to bond and create lasting memories that will be treasured for years to come.

In conclusion, holidays are an essential aspect of life, providing people with the opportunity to relax, recharge, and experience new things. Whether spent with family, friends, or alone, holidays are a time to focus on personal well-being and create lasting memories. By taking regular breaks and engaging in meaningful experiences, individuals can return to their daily routine with renewed energy and a positive outlook.

Long Essay On Holiday`

Holidays are a time for celebration, relaxation and enjoyment. From Christmas to Diwali, from Thanksgiving to Halloween, each holiday has its own special significance and importance. In this article, we will explore why holidays are meaningful for us and what we can learn from them. We’ll also look at the kinds of activities that people engage in during holidays. So if you’re looking to write an essay on the topic of holidays, this is the perfect place to start!

Introduction

It is often said that a holiday is a time to relax and forget about the stresses of everyday life. However, for many people, the reality of a holiday can be quite different. For some, a holiday can be a time of excitement and adventure, while for others it can be a time of reflection and contemplation.

No matter what your personal definition of a holiday may be, there is no doubt that spending time away from home can be beneficial for both your mind and body. A change of scenery can do wonders for your mental health, and even just a few days spent in nature can have positive effects on your physical health.

If you are considering taking an extended holiday, or even just a weekend getaway, there are many things to consider before you begin packing your bags. In this article, we will explore some of the most important factors to keep in mind when planning your next trip.

Reasons Why Holidays are Important

There are many reasons why holidays are important. For one, they provide much-needed breaks from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. They offer a chance to relax, rejuvenate, and spend time with loved ones. Holidays also give us something to look forward to and can help break up the monotony of our daily routines.

In addition, holidays can be a great source of stress relief. They can offer a welcome respite from work deadlines, family drama, or other worries. And even if we don’t have anything specific to worry about, the change of pace and environment can do wonders for our mental and physical wellbeing.

Finally, holidays can be a great opportunity to create lasting memories with those we care about most. Whether it’s decorating the Christmas tree together, sharing a Thanksgiving feast, or simply spending time chatting around the campfire on a summer night, these special moments help to reinforce our bonds and make life more enjoyable overall.

Advantages of Taking Time Off

There are many advantages to taking time off from work, including:

1. Relaxation and rejuvenation: Taking a break from work can help you relax and recharge, so that you come back feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

2. Improved mental health: A break from work can also do wonders for your mental health, helping to reduce stress and anxiety levels.

3. More time for family and friends: When you’re not working, you’ll have more time to spend with loved ones, which can help improve your relationships.

4. Greater productivity: Believe it or not, taking regular breaks can actually make you more productive in the long run, as it allows you to come back to tasks with fresh energy and ideas.

5. New experiences: Finally, taking time off gives you the chance to experience new things and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Different Types of Holidays

There are many different types of holidays that people celebrate. Some holidays are religious, such as Christmas and Easter. Others are secular, such as Thanksgiving and Independence Day. There are also national holidays, which vary from country to country.

Some holidays are celebrated by specific cultures or ethnic groups. For example, the Chinese New Year is celebrated by people of Chinese descent all over the world. Other holidays, such as Valentine’s Day, are popular among people of all cultures and backgrounds.

Whatever the reason for celebrating, holidays are a time to come together with family and friends, and to enjoy special traditions.

Planning Your Holiday

When it comes to planning your holiday, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, you need to decide where you want to go. This can be tough, especially if you don’t have a specific place in mind. Once you have a destination in mind, start looking into flights and accommodation. Make sure you book everything in advance to get the best deals.

Once you have your flights and accommodation sorted, it’s time to start thinking about what you want to do on your holiday. Do some research on the area you’re visiting and make a list of activities that interest you. Again, try to book anything in advance so you don’t miss out. Finally, don’t forget to pack your bags and enjoy your holiday!

Ways to Make the Most of Your Time Off

1. Get organised: Before your time off, take some time to get organised. This means making a list of all the things you want to do and getting all your materials ready. This will help you make the most of your time off and avoid any last-minute scrambling.

2. Set some goals: What do you want to accomplish during your time off? Do you want to learn something new, finish a project, or just relax? Having some goals in mind will help you stay focused and make the most of your time.

3. Make a plan: Once you know what you want to do, it’s time to make a plan. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but having a general idea of how you’re going to spend your days will help keep you on track.

4. Take breaks: Don’t try to pack every minute of your time off with activity. Make sure to schedule in some downtime so you can relax and recharge. Otherwise, you’ll come back from your break feeling exhausted instead of refreshed.

5. Enjoy yourself!: This is probably the most important tip of all! Remember that vacations are supposed to be enjoyable, so don’t stress yourself out too much trying to accomplish everything on your list. Just focus on doing what makes YOU happy and leave the rest for another day.

Things to Consider Before You Travel

Before you travel, there are a few things to consider. First, research your destination. Learn about the culture and customs. This will help you avoid any misunderstandings or offend anyone while you’re there. Secondly, make sure you have all the necessary travel documents and visas. Without these, you may not be able to enter the country or participate in activities. Lastly, plan your budget. Know how much money you’ll need for accommodation, food, activities, and souvenirs. This will help you avoid overspending and coming home to a pile of debt.

Holidays are a much-needed break from the everyday hustle and bustle of life. They give us an opportunity to reconnect with our loved ones, explore new places, learn something new, or just relax and enjoy ourselves. While holidays may be short lived, they can leave a lasting impression on us if we make sure to take full advantage of them. So next time you have some free time on your hands, why not plan a holiday? Who knows what amazing memories you might create in the process!

Essay on Holidays: Holidays are the most important part of not only children’s lives but also adult’s lives. As adults, we work from Monday to Friday with our monotonous 9 to 5 schedule in a hope that we shall be able to party in the weekend holidays. If we actually think about it, there is not much difference between robots and corporate employees. We spend half of our lives in the hope that we will enjoy the holidays. We spend 80 percent of our lives struggling so that we can relax in the remaining measly 20 percent? Sounds sad. In this particular essay on holidays, we shall be talking about the importance of holidays in our lives and how to change our lives so that we don’t depend on holidays to come in order to be happy in life.

If you are searching for well-written Essay on Holidays then we have provided a 600-word long essay on holidays with good content. We have also provided a short 200-word Essay on Holidays in English. Both these essays can be used by students of class 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

Long Essay on Holidays 600 Words in English

Holidays Essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Holidays are a part and parcel of life. Whether it’s a student, a small kid or a full-grown mature adult, everyone loves holidays. It is during holidays that we will get enough time to spend with our families and loved ones. It is during holidays that we can work on the things that we love and always dream of. We can work on our hobbies and dreams during holidays because during work or school time, we shall be completely preoccupied with the work that we might actually not like, but do it to earn our living.

Lucky are those whose holidays and work are not much different. Instead of waiting for 5 days a week so that we enjoy the 2 days in the weekend or wait for 3 months to wait for Diwali holidays or Christmas holidays, we have to build such a life where we need no vacation from. Perfect lives are those whose work and professional life itself feels like a vacation.

Students lives are more or less similar. Children are most excited to come out of school than go in. As children, we remember getting excited for the Christmas holidays or a 2 months summer holidays. This speaks volumes about our education system. If students are not interested to study in a school environment, it is high time education experts change the way teaching is imparted. Our entire education system needs immediate revamp so that children love to study and not forced to study. The education system should be designed in such a way that students don’t miss out on a single class. But it is easier said than done. Education systems in Finland and South Korea have nearly achieved that feat. It requires visionary leadership and policies in India to make that dream come true.

But not every time that the holidays are all hunky-dory. Each and every one of us have experienced this during the coronavirus holidays when India was under a complete Lockdown for more than 2 months due to the spread of COVID 19 pandemic. Most of us,  irrespective of what age and occupation we had, were sick of holidays and sitting at home. While holidays that come our way once in while gives us time to reflect upon ourselves and take a break from the monotony of life,  if the holidays are indefinite,  then it will start taking a toll on our mental health as well as our physical health. As the saying goes, an idle mind is a devil’s workshop, if people are locked up in a house for a long time, our cognitive abilities will start shrinking and our children are especially vulnerable to these negative effects.

I would like to conclude by saying that holidays are important for us to relax and spend some quality time with our selves and with our families and loved ones. But building a life where we are not prisoners to holidays is also important. Build a life where every day of your life feels like a vacation. That kind of life is a truly happy and content life. And at the same time, indefinite holidays will have an opposite impact which means instead of feeling relaxed, our anxiety and restlessness will increase.

Short Essay on Holidays 200 Words in English

Holidays Essay is usually given to classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Holidays are the time that each and every one of us wait eagerly so that we can go on a trip to our dream destination or spend some quality time with our families and loved ones or just spend some time alone in solitude to introspect of life. Irrespective of what the reason is, holidays are undoubtedly the best thing about our lives.

India is a secular country with many religions celebrating their festivities, has plenty of holidays in a year. Governments declare there own holidays other than the corporate holidays that companies and education institutes declare. Some of the major religious holidays in India are Deepawali holidays, Christmas holidays,  Pongal holidays and Ganesha Chaturthi holidays. Other than religious festivals,  India celebrates holidays to commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of its leaders such as Gandhi Jayanti,  Children’s Day celebrated on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday and many more.

Without holidays, the efficiency and the interest to work and to learn will be reduced. In countries like Japan, to improve the work efficiency, companies ask employees to work only four days a week,  unlike India where working in offices and studying in schools has 6 days working routine.  Holidays are just get away from the daily work routine and holidays, it becomes forced and indefinite like the coronavirus holidays can have negative impacts on people and society at large.

Why Holidays are Important for our Mental and Physical Health

Everyone gets excited at the thought of a holiday, be it a sunshine escape to Spain, a winter break in Italy or an indulgent retreat in the Maldives, nobody’s going to refuse a break from the UK weather, are they? Although you might not need persuading when it comes to booking a wellness retreat , we’re looking into the reasons as to why holidays are important for our mental and physical health, and how an escape from your usual routine could be a wellbeing boosting experience that will solve your problems.

Studies have shown that holidaymakers can reap the benefits of a holiday on a physical, mental, and emotional level, with changes to blood pressure, stress levels, energy levels, sleep quality and emotional stability all being noticed. With just one of these benefits your overall physical and mental wellbeing can be significantly improved, and tailoring your trip to your emotional and physiological needs can boost your health even further.

Here are some key benefits of holidaying for your mental and physical health:

Reduced stress

Woman receiving a massage outdoors from a female masseuse

Going on wellness holiday gives you the chance to step back from any responsibilities, obligations, and problems you have at home or work, and taking a break from these sources of anxiety has been proven to drastically reduce stress levels. By separating yourself from situations and places you normally associate with stress and distracting yourself, you’re reducing the process of rumination (the tendency to focus on thoughts causing us stress) and giving your mind other things to focus on – e.g. an activity you enjoy or a place you love - and this can even last for a few weeks after you leave your holiday. These feelings of enjoyment and comfort will replace the feelings of anxiety and reduce your production of cortisol, the stress hormone, which can improve your mood and fertility as well as reducing the risk of indigestion, weight gain and heart attack.

Taking time off to go on a de-stress holiday will allow you to relax and reset, and as you give your mind and body a break, you will continue to reap the health benefits even after you’ve returned home.

Decreased blood pressure

As you reduce your stress levels on holiday, your blood pressure also decreases, and in turn, so does the risk of heart disease and diabetes. You don’t need to travel far and wide to get your wellness holiday fix, even a quick staycation in the UK could reduce your blood pressure, whether it’s through dampening mental and physical tension by relaxing and recuperating, or through being active with activities or exercise classes.

Improved physical health

Group fitness class on the beach at Marbella Club

Staying physically fit and healthy doesn’t have to mean going to the gym five times a week, it can merely be a few hours of activity per day, and what better place to do so than a fitness holiday where you can hike, bike, swim or surf, or even try out a brand-new sport like paddle boarding, windsurfing or kayaking. Doing even one of these things will improve your physical health as you could lose weight, build muscle, strengthen your heart and decrease your blood pressure, and you never know, you might just find yourself a nice new hobby.

You don’t even have to be moving to reap the physical benefits of a holiday, just stepping away from the UK and escaping to the sunshine can give you that much-needed Vitamin D which is fantastic for your bones, teeth, and muscles.

Improved sleep quality

Leaving your worries at home and indulging in a holiday gives your mind the relaxing and peaceful break it needs to slip into deeper and longer sleep habits. Whether you live in a bustling city or a quaint village, jetting off on holiday can relieve any pressures from home as you let yourself be pampered with treatments, activities, and delicious meals. Letting go of your responsibilities can be hard, but as you reduce your stress you will ease your mind, and with that comes deep sleep and sweet dreams. For those suffering from sleep disorders or insomnia, a sleep enhancement holiday focuses solely on improving the quality of your sleep, identifying and analysing sources of anxiety and helping you settle into a regular and fulfilling sleep pattern.

Improved emotional health

There’s no denying that just the thought of a break is enough to boost anyone’s mood, so it should come as no surprise that actually going on holiday is proven to radically improve your mental health. Not only does it remove you from stressful and mentally draining situations, but it provides the perfect distraction from potentially damaging and persistent thoughts and results in reduced feelings of anxiety and depression.

The emotional health benefits of holidaying begin from the moment you book the holiday, as even having something to look forward to can boost your mood and mentality. But once you’re away your health improves even further, with better sleep quality leading to increased energy levels and an enhanced mood, as well as endorphins from exercising and activities providing a natural and effective anti-stress treatment.

It is hard to not let the dreary English weather get you down, and taking some time away on an emotional healing holiday to the sunshine can help to alleviate symptoms of S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder), with only a little amount of sun improving your mood and physical health to no end.

Improves productivity

Taking time away from work can refresh and reboot your mentality and allow you to approach tasks and problems with a different mindset. If your mind is exhausted it will struggle to come up with creative and innovative ideas, but going on holiday can boost our ability to adapt our thinking to face new and unexpected conditions in our environment. So, although walking away from a challenging task might seem like a step backwards, taking a break to step away from the task, learn about new cultures and experience new places could be just the thing you need to move forward.

A yoga or meditation retreat is the perfect opportunity to reset your mind and explore your creativity and expressiveness, both of which are essential to productivity and success both at home and at work.

Prolonged life span

The collective result of a reduction of your blood pressure and stress levels, and consequent decrease in risk of heart disease and diabetes, can increase your lifespan with studies showing that holidaymakers can live longer and healthier lives.

Life satisfaction

Combine all of these benefits; decreased blood pressure, stress levels, risk of disease, increased energy levels, better sleep quality, improved physical health, emotional health and boosted productivity, and the end result is an improved life satisfaction. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, learning to scuba dive, or exploring the natural world by bike, horse, or foot, having a break is beneficial in a number of ways. Taking yourself off, giving your mind and body some TLC and experiencing new things will let you make memories that will last a lifetime whilst simultaneously boosting your mental and physical health.

You have spent the past few days on a cloud over your forthcoming, well-deserved holidays, and will go back to daydreaming about them as soon as you finish this article. And the truth is that the benefits of a good holiday can be felt even before the trip begins. Scientific studies show that merely looking forward to a future reward can be even more rewarding than the reward itself. This is so thanks to a small molecule called dopamine, which we will talk about later.

But, before we continue, let’s think about a few questions. Are holidays really necessary? Why do we need them? And, above all, what are the benefits of a few idle days?

Rest increases cognitive flexibility

Although this may seem unbelievable, there is very little scientific literature that explores the direct benefits of holidays on our brain. What does seem indisputable is that they are essential. This was concluded by a 2016 study in which 46 workers from a Dutch company participated.

The workers were asked to undergo a test in which they were given objects (for example, a hammer) and asked for the greatest number of uses for their objects in the shortest possible time (construction tool, weapon, paperweight, etc.). What the researchers observed is that, after two or three weeks of vacation, workers had greater cognitive flexibility. Or, to put it another way, they were able to think of a greater number of uses for the objects compared to the results obtained a couple of weeks before the holidays.

Most studies concur that, from a biological point of view, one of the main reasons for this increase in cognitive flexibility –and for the benefits of holidays in general– is stress reduction .

We will all agree that work generates stress. But we have to make a small distinction here: stress in and of itself does not have to be bad. When it is sporadic, it is usually even beneficial because it activates mechanisms that help us carry out the daily actions of our work, such as meeting a deadline (the authors of this article are working on that right now).

The “other stress” – the one that has negative connotations for everyone – is chronic stress. It occurs when it is prolonged over time, either because we are under constant pressure or due to situations that we cannot handle. It generates fatigue, higher levels of anxiety, irritability, and anger. And yes, it’s definitely bad.

Recipe for a holiday that recharges your batteries

The main thing that a good vacation can do for our mental health is precisely to reduce chronic stress levels. When we are idle, our brain is able to reverse – at least temporarily – the negative effects of being under stress. And here comes the key: for holidays to be truly effective, we have to ensure that they really free us from the stress of our work. That is, we must avoid continuing with pending tasks, answering emails, etc.

On the other hand, it is essential to prevent our holidays from creating new stressful situations for us.

Another key is to enjoy the wait. Why is it that the mere act of waiting for our holidays makes us happy? We mentioned dopamine a few paragraphs ago, which is produced in the neurons of two brain regions known as the substantia nigra (because of its dark colour under the microscope) and the ventral tegmental area (located in the centre of our brain, more or less behind the ears).

Both regions, which are home to between 400,000 and 600,000 neurons in humans, send axons to numerous areas of the brain. Through the release of dopamine, they play a key role in the pleasant feelings brought on by new experiences and rewards. Therefore, knowing that our holidays are coming increases the dopamine levels in our brain and gives us that feeling of pleasure.

Similarly, the best holidays are those in which we enjoy new experiences (such as exploring different places) and rewards (like that seafood platter we have been waiting for all year). Of course, what one finds rewarding is entirely subjective, and what is pleasant for one person can cause stress for others.

To enjoy or not to enjoy

This system that generates pleasure is also affected during chronic stress. Science shows that high or chronic levels of stress, such as those we are subjected to throughout the year during our workday, are capable of causing a reduction in the amount of dopamine released and/or changes in how it is metabolised.

The worst thing is that the changes do not only occur in the substantia nigra or in the ventral tegmental area. It has been found that chronic stress is even capable of changing the number of dopamine receptors in the areas that receive these projections. When this occurs, depressive behaviours often develop. Therefore, a vacation that frees us from stress will help to rebalance the dopaminergic system.

What is still not entirely clear is whether taking holidays for a long period provides better effects than taking them in a staggered way and in shorter periods.

Be that as it may, good holidays are good for us. So, we encourage our readers to find activities that make them feel good, recharge their energy, and reduce their stress so as to reboot their dopaminergic system. Happy travels!

The Importance of Taking a Holiday

Brenda Elazab

Brenda Elazab

advantages of holidays essay

There is nothing quite like a good holiday and it is a great chance to escape your daily routine and see new places, but these trips are also important in terms of health and wellbeing. A holiday can be a chance to improve your physical and mental wellbeing so they are experiences which everyone should be taking advantage of at least once a year.

Despite this, many people do not go on holiday often for work-related reasons but this could have a negative impact in many ways.

Reduced Stress

A holiday is a great way to reduce stress. This is because it allows you to take some time from work and other responsibilities and escape your normal routine. Additionally, you get to visit somewhere completely new so you can forget about everything back home and enjoy your surroundings – this reduction in stress is amplified if you choose an idyllic, relaxing destination too.

Physical Health Benefits

This reduction in stress allows people to recharge their batteries while they are away so that they return home feeling energized. Too much stress can lead to a wide range of mental health issues, as well as physical problems like a lack of sleep and obesity.

Not only this, but many studies have also shown that regular holidays lessens your risk of dying from any cause other than old age and can minimize the risk of heart disease.

Life Satisfaction

Life satisfaction is another key benefit to taking regular vacations. People need to be able to have a good work-life balance and do things that make them happy. Taking a vacation is often a good chance to spend quality time with loved ones and also a good opportunity to reflect and think about their lives.

This is also why solo activity holidays are so popular because they are a chance for self-reflection as well as a chance to escape your daily life, meet new people and visit new places.

Taking the Time

The health benefits of taking regular holidays is clear yet many people go long periods of time without any kind of vacation.

It is in the individual and business’s best interests for the individual to take a holiday from time-to-time so you should not feel bad or guilty about using your annual leave – that is what it is there for.

The key is to plan the holiday ahead of time so that you have plenty of time to prepare for the holiday and taking time off, plus you can also usually make savings by booking far in advance.

How Vacations Can Improve Your Life

Regular holidays are important for your physical and mental health and can make a big difference to your production, energy and morale when you return home. It is for these reasons why you need to make sure that you have holidays each year – this does not necessarily have to involve a flight halfway around the world as long as you get the chance to escape your daily life and recharge.

So, holidays give them the perfect opportunity to do things they cannot do during school days.

Working people equally love holidays as young kids. Their long working hours and hectic lifestyle don’t leave them much time to relax or enjoy their hobbies. So, during the holidays, they relax and rejuvenate. They sleep in late, wake up late and enjoy the whole day with the family. During holidays, they can go on trips with family or friends to rejuvenate.

How To Make The Most Of Your Holidays?

To fully utilise the holidays, one should list what they want to do or don’t get to do on their normal days. It could be spending time with friends, learning a new hobby, or sleeping late. Then, as per the time and number of days, start ticking things off the list. A new hobby or sport can be learned if you have long holidays. For a short holiday of a few days, a family trip can be planned. Just remember your holidays are the time to enjoy, relax and have lots of fun.

An essay on ‘holiday’ is a great way to teach your child the importance of relaxing, unwinding, and improving their lives. Through this essay, they will also learn about various things they can do during holidays. While writing an essay on holidays, kids will learn the value of playing sports and learning new hobbies to become active and smart.

Disadvantages & Advantages of School Holidays

What Is a Suburban School?

What Is a Suburban School?

School holidays comprise a significant portion of any school year. Students attend an average of 180 school days per year. The rest of that time is spent on weekends, holidays and vacations. While students look forward to those holidays as a break from their regular studies, there is a growing fear that American students are falling behind because of the lack of actual classroom time.

Family Time

One of the benefits of school holidays is the time that families can spend together. School work, especially in junior high and high school, becomes a child's job. Holidays give families an opportunity to spend time together and celebrate. The focus for students moves away from school and onto family and culture. Longer breaks such as the winter holidays allow families an opportunity to reconnect.

Time off from school equals time to reconnect with family.

The Downside of Time Off

Just because kids have time off from school doesn't mean parents do. When elementary-age children have holidays and parents do not, parents can be left scrambling for day care options. Many parents do not have the same time off as their children, causing added expense with babysitting or daycare. Instead of being at school, students are merely shuffled to another home or institution.

Student Learning

By most accounts, the United States educational system has fallen behind that of other countries. Many in the education community believe that this is due to an outdated school schedule still based on a harvest schedule that gives students summers off and extensive holidays throughout the year. President Obama called for a longer school year to extend learning opportunities for K-12 students. More school time could increase student learning.

Students Need a Break, Too

While everyone wants American students to be competitive, students need a break from the classroom occasionally. Spending all day in a classroom actively learning is tiring, and there is a limited amount that students can learn. Taking days off here and there can provide students with the mental break they need to be engaged when they go back to school. While students may not need the amount of time off they currently receive, some breaks encourage rest and give students the boost they need to do their best when they are back in class.

Traveling, Its Advantages and Disadvantages Essay

This essay about travelling abroad explores all the advantages and disadvantages of this activity.

Introduction

  • Advantages of traveling
  • Disadvantages of traveling
  • How to choose a trip

Traveling refers to movement from one geographical location to another, either for recreation or work. The majority of the people who love traveling do it when they are young because of the availability of adequate time and lack of pressing responsibilities such as work and family (Hasbrouck, 2011). Traveling is an important pastime activity that is fun, and that exposes people to other countries, cultures, and societies. Travelers learn a lot because traveling necessitates changes in lifestyle and ways of communication. Moreover, travelers learn new languages, interact with people from other races and ethnicities, and explore new geographical locations (Mitchell, 2006). Individuals who travel regularly possess adventurous spirits that yearn for new experiences to learn new things. Despite having numerous benefits, traveling has disadvantages too. It is costly, exposes individuals to the risk of contracting diseases, and causes excessive fatigue.

Advantages of Traveling

Traveling offers people an opportunity to visit interesting places, learn new things, and meet new people ( 5 Benefits of Travelling , 2013). It is one of the best ways to interact with people from other races, cultures, and ethnicities. Travelers explore the various beliefs and traditions that guide other people’s lives and learn how interconnected humanity is (Mitchell, 2006). For example, there are very many cultures in the world that have preserved their traditional beliefs, customs, and practices. Visiting countries such as Kenya, Mexico, China, and India is an occasion to experience such unique cultures. On the other hand, meeting new people who speak different languages and who live differently is exciting and educational. Travelers also visit interesting places that have great cultural and historical value ( 5 Benefits of Travelling , 2013). For example, the Eiffel Tower in France, Machu Picchu in Peru, and the Pyramids in Egypt possess great historical and cultural value. Learning about their histories can help travelers to comprehend the cultures, traditions, and customs of different tribes and societies, as well as their dynamics.

Another advantage of traveling is the chance to learn, relax, and widen one’s scope of knowledge (Mitchell, 2006). In certain cases, one of the requirements of traveling abroad is learning the language that is used in the country that one intends to visit. English is an international language. However, it is not spoken in all countries. Therefore, it would be necessary to learn new languages in order to enhance effective communication and interaction with people who speak indigenous languages (Thumb, n.d). There are numerous historical sites to visit around the world, and visiting them teaches furnishes knowledge about their historical significance to various countries and cultures (Marks, n.d). For instance, people who travel to Egypt learn a lot about the pyramids as well as when and why they were built. Exploring the cultures practiced by different communities increases appreciation for human diversity (Mercer, n.d).

Traveling allows people to improve their communication skills and create networks that can be beneficial in their lives (Mercer, n.d). Interacting with people who speak different languages and who have different cultures is challenging. However, it is important for the improvement of communication skills. Multicultural interaction is an important skill in contemporary society, especially due to globalization and technological advancements (Mitchell, 2006). Learning to interact with different cultures inculcates strong communication and social skills that are beneficial in personal and professional life (Marks, n.d). On the other hand, it helps to create networks that can be used in different areas of life. For example, travelers can create business, social, political, and religious networks that can help them to improve their lives, communities, and society at large. The international labor market is open for exploration to everyone around the world. Therefore, possessing strong networks and multicultural communication skills is beneficial and necessary.

Traveling exposes people to different living styles. As a result, it inculcates the value of compassion and changes people’s perspectives regarding life (Hasbrouck, 2011). For instance, travelers from developed countries who travel to developing countries get an opportunity to see the effects of poverty, ignorance, and diseases on communities. This makes them grateful for their lives. Also, it enhances the development of compassion and empathy toward the needy and the suffering. Traveling exposes people to new cultures, societies, people, and lifestyles (Mitchell, 2006). This exposure changes people’s perspectives, attitudes, and opinions. They develop new ways of looking at the world, and it also gives their lives meaning.

Disadvantages of Traveling

One of the major disadvantages of traveling is the costs involved. Traveling is expensive and involves the use of money that many people cannot afford (Thumb, n.d). For example, traveling to foreign countries by plane is costly, and people incur numerous expenses that can have severe financial consequences. Many people only travel locally because they cannot afford to travel internationally. Traveling includes other expenses such as food, entertainment, and accommodation (Thumb, n.d). Both local and international travel offer opportunities for exposure to new people, places, and cultures. However, the pricey nature of trips and vacations prevents many people from indulging and enjoying the many thrills they offer.

Another disadvantage of traveling is the risk of exposure to diseases and deadly illnesses. In the past few years, outbreaks of deadly diseases such as Ebola and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) have been reported in several countries. These diseases put the lives of travelers at risk because they can cause death within a very short time once contracted. In many countries, governments impose travel bans on regions that have been flagged for disease outbreaks. A disease outbreak can lead to the quarantine of affected individuals until the disease is contained. Quarantine causes inconveniences and delays that can interfere with the exhilaration of taking a trip.

Traveling requires a lot of time and planning, which can cause great stress and fatigue (Hasbrouck, 2011). Preparing for a trip is time-consuming because of the need to book accommodation, arrange for transport, and make all the necessary inquiries. On the other hand, trips usually involve pre-arranged plans that eliminate flexibility and the freedom to engage in other unrelated activities. Following strict schedules creates rigidity that eliminates the fun that is involved in traveling.

How to Choose a Trip

Choosing a trip is primarily based on the purpose of travel. People usually travel for reasons that include recreation, tourism, migration, work, religious pilgrimages, business, trade, and volunteer work, among others. Others travel to relax, discover new things, explore, and get acquainted with new cultures (Hasbrouck, 2011). If an individual is traveling to relax or for recreation, they may choose to visit historical sites and beaches. On the other hand, people who travel to learn and explore new places may choose to visit countries where communities that have preserved their traditions are found.

For adventure, they may choose to travel to countries with mountains and forests that can provide fun and enjoyable experiences. Those who travel for migration reasons choose countries that provide the opportunities they are looking for. The steps to choose a trip include the establishment of a purpose for traveling, research regarding countries and regions that can fulfill that purpose, and determination of all the requirements for traveling to that location, such as vaccination and learning a new language or skill. There are various types of trips available that serve the aforementioned purposes. The two most important aspects of taking a trip are determining the purpose of traveling and selecting the most appropriate travel option.

People travel for many reasons, including relaxation, recreation, work, business, adventure, migration, and exploration. Taking trips is beneficial because it offers an opportunity to learn, interact with new cultures, learn new languages, improve communication skills, gain new insights and perspectives regarding life and the world, and meet new and interesting people. In contemporary society, traveling has been made easier by globalization and technological advancements. Despite its benefits, traveling has disadvantages too. It is expensive, time-consuming, causes fatigue, and exposes people to risks of diseases. It is important for travelers to determine the purpose of their trips in order to enable them to choose the most appropriate travel plan or program. It is also important to make all the necessary inquiries and arrangements before traveling to avoid getting stuck in new places. For example, it could be necessary for a traveler to learn the basics of communication or language when traveling to certain areas of the world where indigenous languages are used. This is necessary for the enhancement of communication and interaction.

Why We Should Give Students a Homework Break Over the Holidays

Illustration of a person riding a bicycle into a forest

  • Share article

I have so many fond memories from holiday seasons growing up: the smell of delicious food being made by my Mexican and Filipino families, warm light on the faces of my relatives, and lots of laughter. As I got older, though, things changed—mostly because I had so much homework to do.

Instead of joking with our relatives at the holidays, my brother and I would often sequester ourselves at the edge of the room, thick textbooks open and pens in our hands. Sometimes, we’d miss events altogether. When we did attend, the ramifications could be intense. During one spring break, I chose to go to an Easter party with my family. But by midnight, I was stress-weeping because I had so much work to do by the next day.

As a teacher, I now understand the temptation to give work over school breaks. There never seems to be enough time to do the projects or read the texts I’d like to with my kids, and asking students to work or read during breaks eases that crunch. I also worry that my students will lose some of their learning in the weeks they are gone.

Recently, though, my school created a new homework policy that, among other things, encourages us to avoid giving students work over extended school breaks. Our administration cited studies that raise questions about the benefits of hefty doses of homework.

I worried about how this new plan would affect my curriculum pacing, and about what my students might “lose.” But I realized that my concerns were really about my desires, not what was best for my students.

The new policy led me to re-evaluate my assignments and timing, and I ended up being able to make adjustments so my kids could complete necessary projects without working when they should be recharging. I’d worried about my students’ learning, but recent research challenges our long-held belief that students’ learning “slides” significantly over long breaks.

Taking the stress of homework out of my students’ holiday breaks is important. They deserve an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate as much as I do—particularly if they are overscheduled to begin with. Young or old, we all need rejuvenation time. In addition, more studies are demonstrating the benefits of down time for students. Having unstructured time recharges them, but also allows their brains to build connections that strengthen and improve their executive functioning.

We need to be mindful of other factors that complicate homework assignments over holiday breaks. We don’t always know what our students’ lives are like outside our classrooms. Do they struggle with access to the resources necessary to complete assignments? Do they have stressful home situations?

Here are a few ways we can send our students off on a positive note when they leave us for holiday breaks. I’m trying them myself this winter!

Provide activities that support students reconnecting with themselves, their loved ones, or their community.

While we want to avoid giving mandatory work to students, we can offer opportunities and ideas for learning-friendly activities they can do during their break. Maybe that’s an optional/extra credit project that asks students to interview a family or community member (though we should also provide time after break for those who couldn’t work over break). Or maybe we can offer students some ideas about how they could use their time to take care of themselves or their communities. We could provide reflection questions once they’re back from break, to help them find meaning in the experience. Encouraging students to use their time to volunteer or take care of themselves allows us to help our kids grow not just as students, but as people.

Offer opportunities to find a new passion, set goals, or reflect.

While some students may travel or connect with family, some of our kids may have a lot of free time over their break. We can encourage them to use the time to set goals for the year, dream big and draw or write their five-year plan (remind them this is for fun and plans will change!), or reflect on their year or life so far. We can also encourage students to discover something they’re passionate about, or use the time to pursue something they love.

Deepen your relationships with students and allow them to open up to you.

Sometimes, our kids are simply not given the space to dive deeply into something that lets them tell us who they are. Give students a project that allows them to explore their identity or have them write a story about their lives. This will not only provide some critical thinking, reading, or writing enrichment, but more importantly will provide valuable insight into our students’ lives and help us build deeper connections with our students. We can return the favor by completing the project ourselves or writing a story and sharing it with them.

After the break, see what stuck with students.

Instead of returning from break with the mindset of what was “lost,” give students a chance to share everything they remember from the last unit. Instead of assuming they all had a great time they want to share, welcome kids back with an opportunity to celebrate the experiences that stuck with them from their breaks. Help students generate a class-created study guide so they can review what they learned before the break. This gives them space to support one another and remind each other what they learned, as well as gives us an opportunity to praise students for what they’ve retained. It also provides important feedback for us on what stuck over the break and what we need to reteach.

Ultimately, our students look to us not just for academic growth, but to support their growth as human beings as well. Taking away homework stress over break may cause us to change our short-term plans, but providing them with opportunities and resources instead can have some long-term benefits that can change their self-perception and their lives more than a packet of homework ever could.

For some people, the ideal holiday is to get away from their normal routine by staying in a hotel or camping in the countryside. Others prefer to stay at home and do things they do not normally have time for. What do you think are the benefits of going away on holidays? You should write at least 250 words.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Structure Breakdown

Introduction

The word “holiday” evokes a sense of relaxation, fun, and escape from the ordinary. While some people enjoy spending their holidays at home, I believe that the most rewarding and enriching experiences come from venturing away from our usual routines and immersing ourselves in new environments.

  • Body Paragraph 1:

One of the primary benefits of going away on holidays is the opportunity to explore new places, cultures, and cuisines. Traveling broadens our horizons, exposes us to different perspectives, and challenges our assumptions about the world. For instance, my trip to Japan opened my eyes to the beauty of traditional Japanese architecture, the richness of their culinary traditions, and the warmth and hospitality of the Japanese people.

  • Body Paragraph 2:

Travel also provides a much-needed break from the stresses of daily life. Stepping away from work, school, and household responsibilities allows us to relax, recharge, and return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. During my hiking trip in the mountains, I was able to disconnect from technology, enjoy the fresh air and scenery, and bond with friends while watching the morning sunrise. In addition to personal relaxation, traveling can also strengthen relationships and create lasting memories. Sharing new experiences with family or friends fosters closer bonds and provides a common ground for future conversations. I cherish the memories of my childhood vacations spent exploring new cities, swimming in the ocean, and playing games with my siblings.

  • Conclusion:

In conclusion, while there is certainly value in relaxing at home during holidays, I believe that the benefits of venturing away from our usual routines far outweigh the comfort of familiarity.

Traveling allows us to explore new worlds, connect with others, and grow as individuals. So, pack your bags, grab your passport, and embark on a journey of discovery – the rewards will be immense.

  • Introduction:

Some individuals hold the view that the ultimate holiday entails unwinding at home, lounging in bed, and indulging in activities typically sidelined due to time constraints.

Conversely, I am of the opinion that the most remarkable holiday experience occurs when individuals break away from their customary lives and immerse themselves in novel adventures. This essay will explore the benefits of spending holidays away from one’s familiar abode.

One of the main benefits of going away on holidays and trying new things makes us feel ecstatic and excited by giving us different experiences and perspectives. For instance, during my trip to Iceland, I got to witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, and explore otherworldly glacial landscapes, and immerse myself in the vibrant culture of Reykjavík. These places filled me with happiness that lasted even after my trip ended.

Furthermore, Another important benefit worth considering is the opportunity to encounter and engage with new individuals, fostering meaningful conversations and connections. For example, during my camping trip by the river, I was excited to meet new friends, which was much more enjoyable than staying at home. Sharing food, discussing life, and telling stories during these conversations made my holiday even more special.

Conclusion:

To sum up, it is evident that there are many different ways to spend holidays, but the best way, I’d suggest, is to try something different from your usual routine, as going on holiday to new places can really help people in ways that staying at home can’t.

Band 8 Vocabulary

  • Entails  – involves or necessitates

Example:  Cooking dinner entails preparing the ingredients and following the recipe carefully.

  • Unwinding  – relaxing or resting after being active

Example:  After a long day at work, she enjoys unwinding by taking a warm bath.

  • Lounging  – relaxing in a comfortable or leisurely way

Example:  Spending the weekend lounging on the couch, and watching movies is her favorite way to relax.

  • Indulging in  – enjoying something to the full

Example:  During the vacation, they indulge in delicious local cuisine and decadent desserts.

  • Sidelined  – not included in something

Example:  He felt sidelined during the meeting as his ideas were not considered by the group.

  • Conversely  – on the other hand

Example:  She enjoys hot coffee in the morning; conversely, she prefers iced tea in the afternoon.

  • Remarkable  – worthy of attention; striking

Example:  The singer’s remarkable voice captivated the entire audience during the concert.

  • Immerse  – surround or involve completely

Example:  The virtual reality game allows players to immerse themselves in a completely different world.

  • Abode  – a house or home

Example:  Their new abode in the countryside is a cozy cottage surrounded by greenery and tranquility.

The concept of an ideal holiday varies among individuals. While some prefer the escape offered by hotels or the simplicity of countryside camping, others find comfort in staying at home and engaging in neglected activities. In this essay, Let’s discuss the benefits of going away on holidays, emphasizing its role in personal growth, cultural enrichment, and the fostering of meaningful connections with others.

First and foremost, venturing beyond one’s familiar routine fosters exploration and adventure. Exposure to diverse cultures and landscapes cultivates empathy and cultural awareness. For example, my trip to Korea exposed me to the intricacies of Korean culture, leading to a deeper appreciation for their customs and traditions. Additionally, stepping outside one’s comfort zone and meeting unfamiliar situations cultivates the development of crucial life skills, such as adaptability and problem-solving abilities.

Studies have demonstrated that individuals who take regular breaks and indulge in recreational activities exhibit improved productivity and a heightened sense of creativity upon returning to their daily routines.

In conclusion, while some find solace in the familiarity of their homes, I believe that the benefits of going away on holidays are multifaceted.
