Where does one even begin to explain the beauty of somewhere like the Maldives? No words, pictures or bragging can do it justice, but let me try…

The Maldives are a world away from it all . Pure paradise, a little piece of heaven , positively   breathtaking  and by far a dream come true.

We arrived at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (Male) and from the moment we stepped out of the airport, we knew we were in for a treat. Right before our eyes was the most magnificent turquoise water. It was so clear I’m sure you could see your reflection. For once, I wouldn’t mind if our return flight was delayed.

Setting foot in the Maldives has always been high on our bucket list, in fact, it’s been a dream for years. Now, after 2.5 years of continuous travel, it was finally our turn to wake up to the sound and the sight of the Indian Ocean.

For the next 5 days, we would call Sun Aqua Vilu Reef “home”. A barefoot, no stress, outrageously beautiful island.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef is found on Meedhuffushi Island, an intimate jewel in the Maldives’ South Nilandhe Atoll. The island can be reached by seaplane 35-40 minutes from Male.

For the entire duration of the flight, we couldn’t take our eyes off the sights below. It was indescribable. 1,192 coral islands lay scattered throughout the ocean with every shade of blue and green imaginable. We were giddy in our seats, the smiles couldn’t be wider and the anticipation to reach the resort was at an all-time high. This was one flight that could have lasted forever!

The second our seaplane hit the water we couldn’t wait to start exploring. We’re here! Smiling faces greeted us from the jetty and an individual staff member was allocated to each guest. How’s that for service? Shammun, you rock.

During the 4 nights, we were very fortunate to experience 2 different rooms and we can safely say we absolutely loved them both. Predominately the views and all the space!

The first room was the  Sun Aqua Pool Villa. We slide the key in the lock, opened the door and our gasp was immediate. Surely this isn’t real life. Ocean views with our own private pool, a giant swing, an outdoor bathroom/bathtub and a giant bed facing the ocean. Could we ask for anything else? We were two snap-happy, very relaxed globetrotters.

Just when we think it couldn’t get any better, we were moved to a Sunset Reef Villa . Holy Smokes! When you think of the Maldives, your mind is immediately drawn to the houses on stilts, with the ocean as your front door. Panoramic ocean views, open space, the ocean so close you can feel the salt in your hair and a private balcony with direct access to the lagoon. Morning, noon and night we were in the water lapping up these incredible moments.

The only thing we advise… don’t jump from your balcony kids, it’s shallow and you will hurt yourself. Ouch…

Activities or Relaxation? 

Eat, sleep, swim, relax, breathe (this is very important) – repeat.

If you come to the Maldives and choose to do nothing but that, you won’t be disappointed. However, for adventurous travellers, there is still plenty to do to keep you entertained.

There’s a huge variety of water sports, tennis/volleyball courts, boat trips, live music entertainment, a gym, paddle-boarding and why not a sunset fishing trip to catch your next meal? We managed to catch 12 fish between the two of us. Perhaps we need to take this fishing thing a little more seriously?!? Food tastes so much better when you work for it!

Last but not least, let me touch on the subject of snorkelling. It was out of this world. Surrounding the resort is a protected reef with over 100 different species of fish. The water is outrageously clear and the colours of the fish are just stunning. I honestly didn’t think it was possible to have water this transparent.

Room Service Anyone?

Apart from enjoying a delicious breakfast buffet with a stunning setting and exchanging “wow” every second sentence, ordering room service was just a whole lot of “yes”. Let’s just add to the luxury, shall we?

Considering room service at hotels is usually 10x the regular price, it was surprising to see the cost of a room service meal was cheaper than eating at the buffet, pool bar or at the fine dining restaurant. This made for an easy decision each evening during sunset to dial the famous “In Villa Dining” and request our favourite bottle of rosé and maybe the occasional pizza. Ah, just reliving this makes me smile. This setting is just too much to handle!

When we were tired of the buffet (if that’s even possible) and looking for something a little more romantic, we ate at the “Well Done” restaurant located directly on the sand right against the water. The setting was just perfect and the meals were tasty (if maybe a little pricey, but hey, remember you are in the Maldives).

Top tips to get the most out of your stay

• Allow 3/4 of a day to reach the resort. The time from your international flight landing + the seaplane/boat transfer will take up a good chunk of the day. We landed at 9:00 am and didn’t reach the resort until 2:30 pm. It’s the price you pay to stay somewhere so remote and wonderful.
• If something isn’t right, ASK . The staff WILL fix it. If not then and there, within a very short period of time.
• If you’re staying in a Beach Villa, request one facing the lagoon side. We felt the view was better.
• If you plan to drink a lot of cocktails, be sure to look at the all-inclusive option. It will save you some dosh.
• Honestly, the food was hit & miss but if you ask for something fresh, it will be given to you. No questions asked.
• Snorkel to your little heart’s content. Jump in the water from Entry Point 1.

Would we recommend this hotel?

Absolutely. I wish we never had to leave. Sun Aqua felt like a home away from home and by the end of the 5 days we felt like a family with all the friendly staff members. They knew our names, our drink orders and our likes and dislikes. We’re already jealous of anyone that gets to set foot in this resort. Please do us a favour and when you pack, pack us with you! And don’t forget your wallet, you  may need it ;).

The Maldives is an independent island country in the north-central Indian Ocean. The islands extend more than 510 miles (820 km) from north to south and 80 miles (130 km) from east to west. The northernmost atoll is about 370 miles (600 km) south-southwest of the Indian mainland, and the central area, including the capital island of Male (Male’), is about 400 miles (645 km) southwest of Sri Lanka .

The Maldive Islands are a series of coral atolls built up from the crowns of a submerged ancient volcanic mountain range. All the islands are low-lying, none rising to more than 6 feet (1.8 metres) above sea level . Barrier reefs protect the islands from the destructive effects of monsoons. The rainy season, from May to August, is brought by the southwest monsoon; from December to March the northeast monsoon brings dry and mild winds. The average annual temperature varies from 76 to 86 °F (24 to 30 °C). Rainfall averages about 84 inches (2,130 mm) per year. The atolls have sandy beaches, lagoons, and a luxuriant growth of coconut palms, together with breadfruit trees and tropical bushes. Fish abound in the reefs, lagoons, and seas adjoining the islands; sea turtles are caught for food and for their oil, a traditional medicine.

The population of Maldives belongs almost entirely to the Maldivian ethnic group , which is the result of various peoples settling in the islands successively through the country’s history. The first settlers, it is generally believed, were Tamil and Sinhalese peoples from southern India and Sri Lanka . Traders from Arab countries, Malaya, Madagascar , Indonesia , and China visited the islands through the centuries. The official language is an Indo-European language called Dhivehi (or Maldivian); Arabic, Hindi, and English are also spoken. Islam is the state religion.

More than half of the population is considered rural. With the exception of those living in Male , the only relatively large settlement in the country, the inhabitants of the Maldives live in villages on small islands in scattered atolls. Only about 20 of the islands have more than 1,000 inhabitants, and the southern islands are more densely populated than the northern ones. The birth rate for the Maldives is somewhat higher than the world average, but the death rate is lower. More than one-fifth of the total population is under 15 years of age. Life expectancy is about 74 years for men and 79 for women.

Since the 1970s the economy of the Maldives has developed rapidly. Annual growth of gross domestic product (GDP) has been high, averaging about 6 percent in the 2010s, and the gross national income (GNI) per capita—among the lowest in the world in the 1970s—reached the level of upper middle-income countries by the late 2010s. The economy is based on tourism, fishing, boatbuilding, and boat repairing, with the tourism sector driving the rapid growth.

Fishing, long the traditional base of the economy, has been far surpassed by tourism as the main source of gross domestic product (GDP). While the sector still produces the bulk of the country’s exports and continues to grow (albeit at a slower pace than the tourism industry), it employs less than one-fifth of the labour force and contributes less than one-tenth of the GDP. Tuna is the predominant fish caught, traditionally by the pole-and-line method, although a good deal of the fishing fleet has been mechanized. Most of the fish catch is sold to foreign companies for processing and export.

Although formal businesses have seen rapid growth in the country, especially on the main islands, much of the population subsists outside the money economy on fishing, coconut collecting, and the growing of vegetables and melons, roots and tubers (cassava, sweet potatoes, and yams), and tropical fruits. Cropland, scattered over many small islands, is minimal, and nearly all the staple foods must be imported.

Industries are largely of the handicraft or cottage type, including the making of coir (coconut-husk fibre) and coir products, fish canning, and boatbuilding. Textile and garment manufacturing was among the more lucrative industries from the mid-1990s until the 2005 expiry of an import quota regime in international textile trade left factories in the Maldives unable to compete. Construction makes up the bulk of the industrial sector.

Maldives entered the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) in 2006 and signed a free trade agreement with China in 2017. Imports include consumer goods such as food (principally rice), textiles, medicines, and petroleum products. Fish—mostly dried, frozen, or canned skipjack tuna—accounts for the bulk of exports. China, India, the United Arab Emirates , Thailand , Sri Lanka, and Singapore are among the main trading partners.

The tourism industry, although nonexistent before 1972, underpins the services sector. Annually, more than 1.5 million tourists visit the Maldives. Its more than 130 resort islands include high-end hotel brands, and its marine geography offers unique diving and water sports opportunities as well as undersea accommodations, restaurants, and spas. By the mid-2010s the service sector accounted for four-fifths of the country’s GDP.

The rapid growth of the tourism industry left its mark on the labour market, which saw a dramatic shift away from agriculture and toward services. In part because of lack of training among the general population, a number of foreign workers from South Asia provide skills needed to help develop businesses. As businesses on resort islands away from the general populace demanded an increasing share of the total labour force, the participation rate of women, who are discouraged by the culture from living away from their families, fell substantially. About three-fifths of women participated in the labour force in the 1970s, but the rate dipped as low as one-fifth of women in the mid-1990s. By the 2010s, however, the participation rate had recovered to about half of women.

Beginning in 2011, the Maldives collected taxes primarily on the profits of businesses and financial institutions and on goods and services within the tourism sector. An income tax was implemented in 2020.

Transportation between islands and atolls is vital for the country. China and India, competing for influence over the strategically located Maldive Islands, have provided significant foreign direct investment to develop infrastructure that would further connect the islands. Boats provide the principal means of transport between the atolls, and scheduled shipping services link the country with Sri Lanka, Singapore, and India. The national airline carries passengers between several airports in the country as well as internationally. The airport at Male handles most international traffic, although there are other airports that serve limited international travel.

Government and society

The constitution of the Maldives was adopted in 2008. The head of state and government is the president, assisted by a vice president and a cabinet. The president and vice president are directly elected by universal suffrage to a maximum of two five-year terms. The cabinet consists of the vice president, government ministers, and the attorney general . With the exception of the vice president, members of the cabinet are appointed by the president.

The unicameral legislature, called the People’s Majlis, meets at least three times per year. Its members are elected to five-year terms from Male island and from each of the 20 atoll groups into which the country is divided for administrative purposes. The number of representatives from each administrative division is determined on the basis of population, with a minimum of two per division. The 2008 constitution established Islam as the official state religion. Non-Muslims cannot become citizens, and the People’s Majlis is prohibited from making any law that contravenes the tenets of Islam. Other governmental bodies include civil service and human rights commissions.

The highest legal authority is the Supreme Court. Its judges are appointed by the president in consultation with the Judicial Service Commission, a body of 10 members appointed or elected from various branches of the government and the general public. The Judicial Service Commission independently appoints all other judges. There are no judicial term limits; the mandatory retirement age is 70. All judges must be Sunni Muslims. The Supreme Court bases decisions upon the constitution and Maldives law; in cases in which applicable law does not exist, Sharīʿah (Islamic law) is considered. Other courts are the High Court and trial courts.

The most prevalent health concerns are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and renal failure . Certain food- and waterborne illnesses present a slight risk, such as hepatitis and typhoid . Malaria was eradicated in 1984, and the Maldives became the first country in the region to be certified as malaria-free by the World Health Organization in 2015.

A health centre providing basic services can be found on each inhabited island, regardless of population size, and atolls typically have a higher-level facility or hospital on their capital island. Maldivians must go to Male for treatment of more serious ailments, however.

Three types of formal education are available in the Maldives, including traditional schools ( makthab s) designed to teach the reading and reciting of the Qurʾān, Dhivehi-language schools, and English-language primary and secondary schools . The English-language schools are the only ones that teach a standard curriculum and offer secondary-level education. Nearly all children between the ages of 6 and 15 are enrolled in school at the primary or lower secondary levels, but enrollment drops significantly for higher secondary education . A handful of private institutions exist for higher education . The Maldives National University (formerly Maldives College of Higher Education) became the first public institution to offer a bachelor’s degree program in 2000; a limited number of degree programs became available over the years that followed. Maldivians seeking most types of degrees must go abroad.

My Trip To Maldives

Every year I make it my goal to travel to an exotic location and completely disconnect to fully reconnect with myself by immersing with the culture and further expanding my mind. In 2016 I picked the beautiful Maldive Islands to visit. I have been thinking about going to Maldives since 2012 and even talked about it on my social media several times as my dream destination. In August 2016 the trip manifested into my reality and the experience truly changed my life.

Here are several of my posts speaking my experience into existence. Mind you, when I said I wanted to be there, it wasn’t a priority for me since I was traveling to other places across the world. The idea of going to Maldives was more of a “one day” talk. However, it was on my mental radar, which is so crucial when you want to have an experience manifest into your reality. My vibration was aligned with the belief that I will be there soon, so it manifested in due time with absolute ease. I can truly say that I have experienced my thoughts become my reality so many times, but I’ll leave the details of that for another post. 

Before we go any further into my experience of Maldives, let me share some information with you so that you can have a better undertanding of what this little piece of heaven on earth is all about. After I give you some insight and research that I have done before I went, I will get into the depths of my experience there.

The beautiful Maldives consists of 1190 tiny islands scattered across the Indian Ocean. Maldives is located next to India and Sir Lanka.

Out of the 1190 islands in Maldives, only 185 of these islands are inhabited, while the others are used largely for tourism (90 resorts) and agriculture. The atolls are composed of live coral reefs and sand bars perched atop a 960km submarine ridge, while the land features lush tropical vegetation with abundant local coconut palms. With an average ground level of 1.5m above sea level, the Maldives is by far the lowest country on earth and as such has a very fragile ecosystem. The capital and largest city of the Maldives is Male. Maldives waters are thriving with whales and dolphins. At any given time of the year, there are 10 to 12 different species of whales and dolphins that call the coral reefs of the Maldives home. 

After my research of Maldives and discovering that there were 90 resorts, I had to find the one that I would explore during my stay. I decided that I was going to stay at Baros Resort because of its beauty, privacy, and adventure.

After discovering the island that I was going to explore during my stay, I prepared for my long trip to Maldives, which was approximately 20hrs and 45minutes from San Diego, California to Male, Maldives. I packed up and headed for the airport to go on this beautiful journey to the other side of the world. 

Knowing that I was going to be flying for 20hrs and 45mins, I brought several books with me. I love reading, so I utilized my travel time to go through a few books.

After my long trip, I finally made it to Male, Maldives.

When you first get to Maldives, you land in the main city called Male. Once you get to the Male International Airport, the resort sends a representative with a boat to escort you to your designated island. The boat ride from the airport to the resort was about 20mintues. During the ride I was offered a clean towel and water to relax. Upon approaching the deck of the resort, I noticed 6 hotel staff waving and ready to welcome me. It was such a warm welcome. I was quickly introduced to my butler Ahmad who was going to be there to guide me through my stay. Ahmad was very friendly and quickly started giving me insight on the resort. I did arrive in the evening, so I was a bit jet-lagged. I was taken to my water villa that had the view of the sunset from the back and sunrise from the front. It was soothing to hear the water underneath the villa as I was walking to my room. When I got to my room, I found a beautiful welcome note from the staff. After unpacking and unwinding from my travel, I ordered room service.

The next morning I felt rejuvenated and even woke up to the beautiful sound of the water below the villa.

After taking in the beautiful sunrise, I felt completely at peace and connected to the source energy. I sat down on the couch and just started counting my blessings. The thing I realized while being in complete silence is how clear your thoughts become. I felt a deep gratitude for being alive and experiencing what my thoughts can manifest. After about 1 hour of introspection and meditation, my breakfast arrived.

During my trip I had several adventures on my itinerary. I was going to be getting a special massage called the ‘Third Eye Massage’ also known as the Shirodhara Head Massage. I also had snorkeling and island events to attend. Keep in mind that the island is so small so most of what you’ll be doing will have a lot to do with relaxation and sometimes you’ll find yourself laying next to the water for hours. 

Before I get into the list of incredible things I did while on the island, let me talk a little bit more about the food, the people, and the environment. Baros Resort is simply breathtaking. The island provided so many different types of food that it was easy to find something that fits into anyone’s diet. Since Maldives is almost 99% sea, it is not surprising that fish (mainly tuna) is the most important staple of the Maldivian diet. The cuisine found in the island is a mix of Arabic, Indian, Sri Lankan and Oriental influences. The resort also had a diverse international menu as well as traditional Maldivian dishes. Coconuts are a major part of many dishes in Maldives and can be served in grated form, as milk or as coconut oil to cook food with. I loved the clear blue water and white sand that surrounded the island. Also I loved the lush green palm trees and exotic plants that were everywhere. There were exotic birds, lizards, and even insects. The staff on the island were so nice and welcoming. They constantly made me feel at home. The whole island was just incredible.

One of the exciting part of my trip was getting the Third Eye Therapy. At the spa I received a massage treatment called Shirodhara Head massage. This massage originated in India and is sometimes referred to as the  Third Eye Therapy.  The massage consists of warm only dripping on the center of your eyebrow for 30mins. The massage is supposed to promote balance, intuition, and relaxation. I felt myself getting deeper into a trance. The soothing sound of the music and the warm oil stimulated complete bliss. I believe I was awake as I was entering into Alpha brainwave. This is a state of creating and connecting with the unlimited source. My visions were detailed and clearer. The whole stay did stimulate a deep meditative state since I was spending time in nature and in the water everyday. This massage was the icing on the cake. I felt happy, whole, and very much connected. 

Another beautiful experience I had was snorkeling on the island. Maldives is known for its reefs and the world of beauty that roams under the water. I enjoyed connecting with all the sea life. When I initially went into the water I saw a baby shark swimming around and got scared. The marine biologist that was with me told me to explore and connect instead of being scared, because sharks are actually friendly. I trusted her guidance and went far into the sea. I felt energized throughout the experience. I felt like I entered a whole new world. The colors, beauty, and vibrancy of the sea life was magnificent. 

My trip to Maldives was incredible. I honestly didn’t want to leave, but my time to return to San Diego was fast approaching. Going on this kind of trip really taught me the importance of isolation and deep relaxation. Getting away from everything to reconnect with yourself truly does something magnificent to you. During my stay at Baros Maldives I experienced a lot of introspection. Being surrounded by water and being in silence is transformational. Also being away from everything and everyone, you start to think much more deeply and clearly. I felt the union between my inner voice and my thoughts. Understanding the power of myself meant being one with my inner voice. I also started to really get clear by eliminating the excess mind chatter and finding that inner place of oneness with self. I felt loved, happy, and energized. I do believe being in nature naturally does this to you. You don’t necessarily have to be in Maldives to get this experience. However, you have to connect with the frequency of the earth and get out of the busy city life and into nature often. I commit myself to 1hr of nature daily by being surrounded by water, plants, mountains, and animals. It’s pure bliss for me. I hope this gave you some insight about Maldives. With the power of your mind, you can go anywhere. Hope you get to experience this heaven on earth soon.

My Dream Destination Maldives Essay

For my birthday this year, my family said I could pick where we go on our trip. I want to visit the Maldives, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. In this essay, I will tell you about the Maldives and why it would be a super fun place to visit. I will talk about the pretty beaches, awesome activities, and how relaxing it seems. The Maldives looks like an amazing place that can be our next adventure!

My Dream Vacation: The Maldives

Crystal clear water.

When I first saw photos of the Maldives, the ocean water amazed me. It is so blue and clear – way clearer than any water I’ve ever seen! (Topic sentence) You can snorkel and see many colorful fish by looking into the water. Swimming with tropical fish would be the coolest thing ever. I want to spot turtles and coral reefs without even using goggles! (Example) The ocean is supposed to be very peaceful, too. Floating on the surface would feel awesome.

Over-Water Bungalows

In the Maldives, some hotels have special bungalows right over the water. These bungalows are like little wooden houses, built on sticks out in the lagoon! (Topic sentence) Guests can look through the glass floors and watch fish lying in bed. At high tide, gentle waves even hit the floor. Falling asleep to the ocean sounds below would be so beautiful and magical. My sister says it’s like being a mermaid for a few nights! (Example) Staring at the fish from my bed would be way better than TV.

Fun Activities

There is lots to do in the Maldives beyond enjoying the ocean views. Some activities I think would be really cool are snorkeling or scuba diving with whales and dolphins, sunset dinner cruises, visiting the capital city Male for sights like ancient mosques, and learning local skills like bamboo art (Topic sentence). Also, kids clubs teach beach volleyball, coconut crafts, and swimming with stingrays! With so much to explore on land and sea, my whole family could stay busy and have an amazing time in the Maldives.

In conclusion, the Maldives seems like an incredibly beautiful place that would be a dream vacation. Everything from crystal clear waters and colorful sea life to the interesting culture and adventure activities sounds awesome. I hope my parents agree that the Maldives would be a super fun place for our next family trip and create memories to last a lifetime! Please say we can go – I really, really want to visit.

Maldives Destination “My Dream Land” to Visit

Maldives is one of the most beautiful travel destination , that I have ever dreamt of visiting. My Dream Land! Basically a collection of Islands located in Indian Ocean, the place is truly Magical. There is no other place as beautiful and as lovely as this one, I dream of. The warmth of the sun, the winds of the seas the beautiful aura and the amazing freshness of the scenery, Give a Visit to Maldives, it is just spellbinding.

Lets us take a look on some of the most amazing places in Maldives around there:

Starting with my favourite destination of Maldives is the “ The Sea of Stars “. The place I have always wanted to spend the night. I read there is a lot of logic behind the place and it is not actually the stars, But I have never ever cared of the Logic. What I have always wanted is to spend my time in a place like this, simply mystical!

The next amazing place to visit there is the “ Fua Mulaku “, the largest island in Maldives. Located at the south province of the arcepelago of Maldives, The place is extremely beautiful with varieties of flowers and fruits being produced around. The place is the most fertile one than any other island in the country.

The other place making this beautiful island mysterious as well is the “ Kudahuvadhoo “. The place is famous for its mysterious mound called “ hawittas “, the ruins of temple of Buddha. Though the truth behind the mystery is still not verified but the story has been able to attract a lot of visitors here. The beautiful Island is also well known for its Old Mosque, with some of the best masonry you can every see.

The next amazing place here is the ”  Mirihi Island “ , most famous tourist attraction in Maldives. Named after the beautiful flower Mirihi, the place has some of the best stay options for tourists. White sand beaches, Sea Bungalows and crystal clear water stretching far across, with an additional bonus of palm tress all across the beaches. You can imagine the beauty of the island.

While we have gone through the most beautiful and scenic places of Maldives, How can we forget its cultural beauty. Maldives National Museum , is an amazing and interesting place to go through the culture and history of Maldives. The museum consists of some of the famous sculptures and coins used in past decades. This is a must visit place for all the lovers of history and sculpture.

Travelling is my craze, it is just like a drug to me and my life would definitely be passionless without it. And with places like these my love keeps on growing each day.I hope all travel lovers would love these places, if you liked my list go ahead and share your favourite with me.

About Maldives

The Maldives consists of 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of twenty-seven atolls situated in the Indian Ocean. Most atolls consist of a large, ring-shaped coral reef supporting numerous small islands.

The country covers an area approximately 90,000 square kilometres, of which only 298 square kilometres is dry land. The islands are of average one to two square kilometres in area, and no individual island is longer than eight kilometres. The Maldives lies between 1-1.5 meters above sea level, with the highest island situated at 3 meters above sea level.

Maldives is largely flat and has no land features such as hills or rivers, but some islands have dunes such as that found in Hithadhoo island of Addu Atoll, and wetlands and marshes such as those found in the Fuvahmulah island of Gnaviyani Atoll.

The Maldives is renowned for its white sandy beaches, pristine turquoise waters and unique underwater marine life.

In 2011, Baa Atoll, which is home to a globally significant biodiversity among its numerous reefs in the Indian Ocean, became a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The people of the Maldives islands are widely dispersed across the atolls, with about 200 inhabited islands. About 164 islands are developed as tourist resorts and the remaining islands are uninhabited or used for agriculture & other livelihood purposes.

The capital of the Maldives is Male’.

The Maldives has a warm and humid tropical climate, all year round and is influenced by two dominating monsoons.

The fact that the Maldives is located at the equator, Maldives receives plentiful of sunshine throughout the year. The temperatures of Maldives ranges between 25° Celsius and 32° Celsius throughout the year.

The dry season (northeast monsoon) runs from December to April. While the rainy season (southeast monsoon) runs from late May to November.

The official language of the Maldives is Dhivehi , which is a unique language spoken only by the people of Maldives.

Dhivehi is an Indo-Aryan language with roots in Sanskrit and influenced by other major languages in the region. The language was influenced by the Arabic language with the advent of Islam in the 12 th century, and the English language with the introduction of English medium education in the Maldives.

Spoken Dhivehi has notable dialects due to geographical dispersion, with the southern-most islands having the most distinct dialect.

Dhivehi script, known as Thaana , is written from right to left, similar to the Arabic language. This new script was invented in the 16 th century, following the liberation of the country from the Portuguese.

There are 24 letters in the Thaana alphabet and 11 separate vowel or diacritical signs called fili in Maldivian, which are placed either above or below the alphabet letter designating the sound.

PEOPLE & CULTURE

While very little is known about the ancient history of the Maldives scholars and historians believe that the Maldives is an old nation populated well over 2500 years ago. The Maldivian race is the result of several waves of settlement from various parts of the Indian subcontinent and thousands of years of interactions of people of various races and ethnicities that crisscrossed the Indian Ocean over the centuries.

The country’s unique cultural traditions and the diverse physical traits of its people bear witness to the fact that the country was indeed a melting pot of people and cultures due to its geographical location. Over the centuries Maldivians were exposed to diverse genetical and cultural influences. Traces of Africa, Arabia, Indonesia and India are to be seen in the physical features of the people and in the culture, especially in the traditional drumming dance of Bodu Beru with its echoes of Africa. The rich Maldivian culture, craft and traditions have been shaped by the island environment and the seas that surround its people.

The current population is estimated at just over half a million in 2020. A third of the population lives in the capital city of Male’, while the rest live in other inhabited islands across the country.

The livelihood of Maldivians traditionally depended on the seas, fishery being the main source of sustenance. While fishery still contributes significantly to the economy in terms of employment and income, tourism is the main source of income for the Maldivian economy today.

My Vacation to Maldives

Last year during our summer holidays, my family went to Maldives for a vacation full of fun and enjoyment. Maldives is located near Sri Lanka. It is famous for its lagoons and white beaches. We flew with Lufthansa air lines till Kuaukapi in Sri Lanka and then took a bi-plane to Male International Airport. The bi-plane rider was a one-of-a-kind experience and I will never forget its wobbly balance.

The city of Male was the cleanest city ever. All the citizens had pledged never to litter and chucked their waste materials in a dustbin. Our resort was 50km off the shore of Male. It was called Taj Exotica. It was an island in itself. The white sandy beaches shone brightly like yellow diamonds. The island was surrounded by coral infested lagoons as far as the eye could see. We had to take a golf buggy ride to our cabin. During the trip we saw huge coconut trees. I could almost imagine them laughing at our meagre size. When we reached the other side of the island we were greeted by the most beautiful site ever. There were sixty to seventy dolphins jumping in and out of the water. I felt like taking some time out and thanking Mother Earth for this beautiful sight. Our cabin was built on a lagoon. The floor was made on a 30cm bullet proof glass and we could see the corals as if they were on an HD TV. The sun also shone with a lot of brilliance and brightness.

On the flight back to Mumbai, I recalled all that I had experienced in Maldives. The breath-taking feats of nature, the great hospitality and of course the dolphins!

I Love My Country, I Am Proud to Be a Malaysians

As a Malaysian, I am proud of my country and everything it has to offer. Malaysia is unique in that it is home to various ethnic groups, each with their own distinct cultures and traditions. Despite our differences, we live harmoniously thanks to the spirit of One Malaysia. Malaysia’s tropical climate, beautiful beaches, and cool hill resorts make it a popular destination for tourists. However, it is the friendly people, rich heritage, and fantastic array of food that truly make Malaysia special. As Malaysians, we have the freedom to pursue our dreams and grow, thanks to the support of the government and those around us. Malaysia is a rich country, known for its exports such as rubber, palm oil, and tin. I feel lucky to have been born in Malaysia, a peaceful and multi-racial country that I love dearly.

I love my country, I am proud to be a Malaysians Malaysia is a country which consists of three main races that is Malay, Chinese and Indians, and also various ethnic tribes like the Iban and the Kadazan community, and many more. What makes it so special is that we can all live harmoniously in this country, that is because the spirit of One Malaysia. In a way, I am proud to be a Malaysian, no matter how many times I say that I want to live in another country or studying at oversea when I grow up. Home is where the heart is.

There are many reasons behind this. First of all, Malaysians, being of different races, can be seen on the streets in their various costumes and adding color to the scene. The sunny, warm and wet climate throughout the year makes Malaysia a tropical paradise. Visitors like the green forested hills, the golden beaches with graceful coconut palms fringing them, the blue sea and of course of the local cuisine. Foreign tourists find these places ideal for a holiday, as they get away from their cold countries.

I have been to many places, get the experienced of different culture and met new faces, but I realize that nowhere in the world can compare with Malaysia and its friendly people, our colorful culture, rich heritage and especially of our fantastic array of food. Malaysia offers a huge variety of food, from our local cuisine to Western cuisine.

To be Malaysian means having freedom, knowing that we have the freedom to pursue our dreams and grow. We live in a country that supports growth and we can do so much with the support of the government and the people around us. Besides that, people in other countries are beginning to recognize that Malaysia is a growing country and they have positive things to say about it. I’m proud to be part of this nation and that is another reason why I love my country-Malaysia!

Lastly, Malaysia is a rich country and also famous the world over for its rubber, palm oils and exports and tin. Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital city, is the largest in Malaysia, with many modern buildings. I am proud of my country which I love dearly. Be proud to be a Malaysian. Don’t ask what the country has done for you but ask what you have done for the country. I am lucky that I am born in Malaysia, a peaceful and multi-racial country to live in.

So, let me start by thanking my most incredible husband, Doug. For being an incredible partner to me, an incredible father to Cole and Ella, and happy anniversary, Dougie. I love you so very much.

To our president, Joe Biden. When I think about the path that we have traveled together, Joe, I am filled with gratitude. Your record is extraordinary, as history will show, and your character is inspiring. And Doug and I love you and Jill, and are forever thankful to you both.

So, America, the path that led me here in recent weeks was, no doubt, unexpected. But I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys. So, my mother, our mother, Shyamala Harris, had one of her own. And I miss her every day, and especially right now. And I know she’s looking down smiling. I know that.

So, my mother was 19 when she crossed the world alone, traveling from India to California with an unshakable dream to be the scientist who would cure breast cancer.
